Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment thatís just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard itís fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

Pours hazy yellow gold with a huge foamy white head with great retention. A mild saison smell. Taste is also muted from what I like in the style, but still very good. A quality brew.

Poured a lightly hazy bright yellow with lots of carbonation bubbles rising uip in the glass. There was a tall foamy white head that became creamy on top. There was a good amount of thick clingy lacing. There was a grapefruit aroma and other citrus scents as well. There is a good hops flavor upfront, predominately grapefruit, along with a nice hops bitterness. The bitterness lasts well and mellows somewhat with the bisquit malt flavor that balances it. There is a good bit of carbonation here too. I wouldnít say this is a farmhouse ale , but more like a good IPA that has a good amount of malt balance to smooth out the hops. I did enjoy the beer never the less.

Fairly explosive saison with a wet straw color and a head that continues to grow throughout the first couple of minutes. Hop presence in the nose along with some tangy fruit and phenol scent. Taste is tangerine and sweeter malt with some pepper and banana in the back and prickly hops on the tongue. Not my favorite in the style, but Iím a solid traditionalist when it comes to saison.

This is the new thing for US microbrewing, the totally unironic imperial saison. Well holy hell does this beer reek of Belgium: citrus, wheat, white pepper and stanky yeast. Lemon juice color with a thin veil of retained head. Tastes is a tongue cracking bittersweet, followed by airy herbs and grass. Light and very biting. This is anything but subtle or delicate.

A - Pours a cloudy golden-orange with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down very slowly leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of wheat, lemon zest and other citrus, coriander, yeast, farmhouse smells, some grains, and a bit of funk. T - Starts off with a mix of lemon zest and other citrus flavors with some wheat and grains and some coriander. Through the middle, some yeast and farmhouse flavors come through with a touch of pepper and some funk. The finish is a mix of lemon zest and grapefruit with some sweet wheat and grains and some Belgian yeast. M - Medium bodied with moderate-heavy carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry and lightly tart and funky finish. D - Very drinkable. Really nicely balanced Saison. Nice amount of yeast and spices.

Bottle 355 ml. Thanks to SourNotes! Clear golden with a large creamy and fully lasting white head and fair lacing. A beautiful beer! Aroma of citrus (grapefruit), malt, spices and slight honey notes. Taste is sweet with malt, spices and slight citrus. Medium but long lasting bitterness. Mouthfeel is a bit sticky. Good carbonation and medium body. Superb example of the style. Refreshing and drinkable. A lovely beer!

UPDATED: APR 27, 2013 Bottle @ home. Poured a hazy lemon peel/gold color, with a bright white head that has been hanging around for a while now. Aroma is citrus, lemon, spice, yeasty, biscuity, doughy, grassy, and herbal. Taste is yeasty, citrus, medicinal, big clove, straw, somewhat doughy, grassy, peppery, and floral hops with a spicy bite on the finish. Begins herbal and spicy and continues through the middle, leading to a lightly bitter finish that seems to linger. High carbonation and amazing lacing. Very refreshing and the alcohol is hidden well. Very well constructed beer and easily one of the most accessible saisons around.
