Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment thatís just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard itís fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

Iíve adopted a new favorite summertime beer style: farmhouse ales. Tank 7 played a big part in bringing me aboard. Itís light, crisp, and all those other adjectives that you typically associate with blandness, but it still has loads of bready/hoppy flavor without tasting too much like fruit juice. It does have a decent floral aroma and a dirty blond appearance, both typical of the Belgian family. The abv is unnoticeable and itís refreshing. In a better world, they would serve this at the end of a marathon, rather than Michelob Ultra.

Courtesy of craftycarl21. Hazy orange amber pour with a massive frothy white head. Excellent lemon and orange rind in the nose with peppery herbals and soft spicy dough. Excellent citrus and crisp wheat character in the flavor with herbal dough abounding. Medium body with fluffy carbonation. Awesome!

From a 12oz bottle into a wide mouth water glass. Date on bottle is best by 10-13-12. I like the best by date. Pours a royal hazy golden; a very nice color. Plenty of frothy head and a tiny bit of lacing. Aroma of honey, hardcore funk, grass and mild hops. Mouthfeel is very fizzy; overly so. Taste is very pungent. Lots of flavor for a lighter beer. Plenty of grass, lemon hops, funk, Funk, And Mo Funk! I really liked this beer. A very good and pungent saison. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a bottle at Kumaís Corner in Chiacgo. Server brought me this because they were out of Midas Touch and because I had a KC Royals hat on. Pours a golden yellow with an extremely frothy white head. Aromas were mostly of fruit, particularly grapefuit and bananas. Flavor was again mostly fruity, with some small hints of spice and cloves. Very drinkable beer.

On tap @ Chuckís 85th. Pours hazy light orange. Aroma is grapefruit and hops. Taste is clean grassy hops up front with funky sweet Belgian yeast on the back. A little thin, but not out of character for this style and well balanced with the ABV. A great choice if you gotta have hops but donít want the heavier malt of an IPA. This beer introduced me to Boulevard a year or two ago and Iíve been steadily impressed by them. For a Kansas City brewery to get into the hyper-competitve Seattle beer market is no small accomplishment.

Shared from 750ml bottle. Poured a hazy yellow color with a large, foamy white head. Aroma was yeast, spice, a touch of light tart funk. Flavor was yeasty, with notes of spice, and sweet malts, with a slight tart funk note. Very tasty.

I really liked this beer and hard to say it was a farmhouse ale. It did have the dull gold and slight cloud of many but it was wonderfully aromatic and hopped just right.

Poured from 750 ml bottle to tulip. Great saison aroma, with a little bit too much American hoppiness to break the spell. Beautiful color with a thick, creamy head. Taste combines two of my favorite styles, with a crisp hoppiness on the front end, and smooth Belgian style going down. Definitely something to try to get you into saisons.

Good saison thatís different from the dry saisons. A lot of pepper and funk in the taste. Good stuff from Boulevard.
