COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment thatís just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard itís fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

750mL bottle, pours cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma of barnyard funk, yeast and grains. Flavour is quite funky, with lots of the barnyard qualities, yeast and some spiciness. Very enjoyable, though nowhere near Saison Brett.

Corked & Caged 750 ml Bottle. Sparkling lemon yellow and gold colored in appearance with active carbonation trails and massive sea foam head. The aromatic notes are mostly lemon zest, honey and pears with some sharp yeast funkiness in the background. The flavor starts off tart and acidic with a blend of grapefruit citrus, honey and cloves. After that, itís mostly malt and yeast notes with a little bit of peppery spiciness. The body is slightly creamy with heavy carbonation with a dry, tart finish and mild clove aftertaste. Overall, a smooth and refreshing Saison with a nice alcohol kick to it.

Pours a nice slightly hazy golden with a thick and rather persistent buttery off-white head. Aroma is wheaty and yeasty, rather strong with a hint of lemon, enough to tempt a taste. Flavor is wheaty and yeasty, as the aroma promises, with a lemon underpinning and a surprising strong hint of hops. Texture is fizzy, lively and firm-bodied. Iím glad I discovered this brewery!

Hazy light tan. Thin head. The aroma is herbal, lightly spicy with mostly spicy American hops and a nice yeastiness. Herbal and very spicy on the palate, yeasty and quite hoppy. Good balance - a tasty assertive farmhouse ale.

Pour from a bottle was a golden orange color. Nice bountiful white head. Aromas were of lemon and some spice. Flavors are very good and solid with orange, grapefruit, and some bready belgian characteristics. Any fruity sweetness fades to some tasty bitter hops and a semi dry finish. Way above average Saison in my opinion and would buy one again.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2014 Bottled. Aroma: Bready, yeast, wheat, orange, peach and coriander Flavor: Spice, wheat, orange liquor, yeast. Persistent finish. Comment:Solid. Very filling, though a bit heavy from the mid-palate on. Less, refreshing or food friendly than it could be, so this may work better for those who prefer not to dilute their beer with food. I favor the Saison Brett. 8/2014. Bottle aged 1 year in basement. Aroma: Floral, dusty wheat, orange, peach Palate: Medium body Flavor: Floral, peach blossom, peach, bittering hop/resin kicks in mid-palate, Finishes with ripe ruby grapefruit with moderate bittering. Comment: Sweeter than I expected though balanced with hop bittering. US take on Belgium? May emulate Dupontís Bon Vieux that doubles its malt. 3.7-3.8 rating.

AROMA: amarillo dry hops, fruity, yeasty, bubblegum, citrus, bananas, sour milk; APPEARANCE: pale yellow, good lacing, head dissipated quickly; TASTE: bitter, sourish of trace of sugars or salt yet rounded PALATE: medium carbonation and medium body; OVERALL: Richer than usual for a saison, not as complex as Phantome or as delicate as a Dupont and not as complex as either.

On tap at the Hop Leaf in Chicago. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a thick white head. Aroma of bready/crackery malt, Belgian yeast, and floral hops. Flavor of bready malt, yeast, tons of peppery spices, lemon, and bitter hops. A very good saison. 7/4/8/4/14 [3.7/5]

Bottle pours hazy straw gold with rich 4 finger head and champagne-like effervescence, head retention is phenomenal. Aroma is yeasty wheat, lemons, other citrus, and funk. Tastes like lemonade, spice, grapefruit, and has a slight sour finish. Very refreshing on a hot day like today! Body is medium, creamy, very fizzy, and with a long spicy sour finish. Overall, this is a delicious saison!

On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and served to a tulip with a hazed orange tone, decent, white, meringue-like head foam, and web-like cling to the lacing. The aroma was fresh fruitiness and citrus, as lemon and tangerine, spice, and a hint of yeast. The flavor added low but lingering hop bitterness, light sugary sweetness, and slight tartness. The carbonation was lively, and warming alcohol was present but subtle. The finale presented some dryness, with all notes holding their integrity even as the liquid warmed and slowly became scarce. Impressed!
