COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment thatís just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard itís fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

12oz bottle into a tulip. Pours a hazy straw yellow with a two finger rocky head. Some of the best head retention I have every seen. Looks like whipped cream or meringue. Amazing! Aroma is very perfumey with notable spiciness with lemon, orange, and coriander being predominant. There is also a very noticeable citrus/spicy hop aroma that is very complimentary to the spice and yeast. One of the better noses on a saison. The flavor is a nice blend of bready malt and yeast esters. Bread and hay along with orange, lemon, and coriander all balance quite nicely. Citrus hops are noticeable but donít contribute much in the way of bitterness. The biggest letdown is the mouthfeel. It is a bit thick and sticky; not at all dry and light like a true saison. Alcohol is well hidden but the mouthfeel limits drinkability somewhat. Overall, the appearance and flavor are really great but the mouthfeel needs work. If this could be lighter and dryer it would really be an outstanding American saison. Still, mouthfeel aside, it is a good beer that should be picked up should you come across it.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2012 Fantastic musty dank nose - Grapefruit hops, slight lemon, orange peel, Belgian yeast and malt, and some undefinable creaminess. Musty and spicey excellence. Gorgeous sunny opaquely hazy.

Aroma of citrus, apricot, yeast and a faint fresh rubber. Pours grainy and blonde with heavy carbonation. Taste is good with more yeast, wheat and light citrus. Not as funky floral as I had hoped but nice.

Bottle, 75cl, at Kristiansand ōlfestival. It pours an unclear, yellowish golden body and a nice, white head. Ther aroma has the typical saison yeast scent, with citrus, pineapple notes, grass, some sugary maltyness and a pleasant alcohol touch. Itís full bodied, quite dry and pleasantly carbonated, with a good bitterness in the flavor. Citrus, some alcohol and grass, notes of pineapple and yeast too. Lasting bitterness in the end. A quite wonderful saison, will certainly have more of this. 121013

UPDATED: APR 12, 2014 Poured from a bomber into a tulip glass. Aromas of citrusy hops, farmhouse funk and sweet yeast. Appearance is fairly clear and straw yellow. Flavor is a nice balance of bubble gum sweet and some firm citrusy hops. Nice finish of sweet citrus (lemon peel?) and an effervescent mouthfeel. Really good farmhouse.

Fruity grapefruit aroma, pours light yellow and slightly hazy, the flavor is mostly fruity, grapefruit, low bitterness, slight sweet malt flavors. Good solid beer, easy drinking for an 8% beer, the alcohol does not come across at all.

Poured into a tulip. Batch #712114 with a Best By of 01-2013. 3.5 A: First pour gave me a lot of head, so I needed an additional one to get a full glass. Mildly hazed golden yellow color. Two fingers of frothy/foamy white head. Retention is about average and a good bit of lacing is left. 4.0 S: Good bit of funk and fruit in this. Grapefruit and orange kick things off. Melon and hints of various stone fruit. Flowery/herbal funk with notes of forest after a rain and apple orchard. Elderflowers and chamomile. Dry hay and wet grass. 4.0 T: Just as herbal and flowery as the nose. Too much herbalness that I donít even know which ones to name. In truth I only know a few by heart anyway. Letís just say that itís herbal. Melon, peach, grapefruit, orange, and hints of pineapple fruitiness. Same funk as in nose. Lightly spicy with pepper being the most apparent flavor. This is bold and powerful to say the least. Quite complex as well. 4.0 M: Lighter medium body. Carbonation is near the upper limit of what Iím okay with. Good spritziness and good creaminess as well. 4.0 D: Iím not a huge fan of superly herbal saisons, but this is one of the best in that genre. Complex, powerful, and easy to put down. Floral and fruity ester nose. With white dense head atop yellow cloudy body. Taste spice, citrus, tropical fruits. High carbonation. Dry somewhat bitter finish that sticks on palate long after. Alcohol comes thru a Lil bit. Nice saison
