Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment thatís just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard itís fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

Poured out of bottle into a wide flute beer glass. Lots of bubbles on the initial pour, quickly dissipating head with just the edge of the glass graced by the lace. Bright orange color, opaque. Smell: Floral hops and citrus.. mostly grapefruit. Pleasant and mellow. Taste: No real flavors coming through, though still very nice... maybe a little orange. The bitterness coming into play at the end, which is good. Soft texture, not quite creamy though. While not a powerhouse, it is very nice to drink. For me it fits both a summer and winter drink. Itís simple taste makes it refreshing for hot days, but the softness also makes it appealing to a cold night in front of the fireplace.

12 oz bottle. Pours a very hazy, golden straw color and crowned by a thick, pillowy head of off white foam thatís shows great retention. The aroma shows notes of ripe citrus fruits, clove and spices, a Belgian style yeast, and some bready malts. Citrus and floral hops add ample bitterness. The flavor follows with the citrus fruits and spices followed by the bready malt sweetness, some barnyard yeasty esters, and floral hop bitterness on the back end. Medium bodied, smooth and ample carbonation leads to a slightly dry and bitter finish. Solid and tasty hopped up saison. Definitely one of the better beers from Boulevard.
