"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Cloves and sweet malt on the aroma. Appearance is a cloudy copper with a white head. Flavor is full of cloves and malty sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium with medium high carbonation. Overall, the beer lacks the complexity of a Belgian quad and it's also too light in color. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Garnet in color with big frothy/creamy head. Some faint dark fruit flavors, raisin, plum. Belgian yeast. Pretty easy drinking for the ABV, alcohol is well hidden. Some Belgian sugar sweetness, but not overbearing. Decent.

Way better than I expected. My friend's favorite beer and I see why. 10.5% and doesn't taste anywhere near it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle courtesy Aaron. Classic quad. Tasty and aweseome. Some dark fruit, mild booze, and quaffable.

An opaque brown body with a tan head that had nice retention and lace. Body grew murky as some of the sediment was disturbed. Aroma was a mix of fruity esters. Some dark dried fruits, banana, bubblegum and some sugary notes. Flavor was initially sweet from the dark fruits, there was a mild presence of bread malts and more sweetness almost like brown sugar. Alcohol was present in the finish. Carbonation seemed adequate. A nice beer, but it came close to being cloying.

6 month old bottle. Bottle pours a nice hazy burnt orange with off white foam and decent lacing. The aroma is rich toasted malts and a dense fruits of a Belgian strong ale. The flavor starts lightly sweet with a unique Belgian maltiness and lends itself well to a smooth slightly boozy finish. Very good balance throughout and one if the best American quads.

Not really for me. Pours a nice dark Amber color with massive head. Tastes mildly sweet and complex. Some grass or rye. The 10.5 percent is a bit harsh for a beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle to chalice. More brown than red pour with a luxurious head that forms some nice colonies on top after resting a bit. Aroma of Belgian yeast and a little candy sugar. Nice malty flavor with a spicy, peppery, and ultimately dry finish.

Pour is a cloudy brown amber, small off white head. Aroma has a bit of banana and dark fruit notes upfront, slowly mellows out to some caramel malt, yeast and dark fruit as it warms up. Taste is similar to aroma with some dark fruit and yeast that become more prevalent as it warms up, some herbal hops as well. A full body with good carbonation on the palate. Finish is sweet caramel malt, yeast, dark fruit plums and figs, brown sugar and mild bitter herbal hops for balance with a bit of sweet brown sugar and alcohol on the end. Finish is long and slightly dry. A noteworthy full flavored brew, very nice.

Been aging in my cellar for about 11 months. Cloudy golden brown with creamy tan head. Dank dried fruits, raisin, date, prune and banana. Flavors of ripe banana, caramel, brown candy sugar, bitter chocolate and a strong alcohol presence. Thanks dlovell2!
