"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersenís The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

BIG Thanks to mar for this 750ml! Pours a dark orange/copper color with a huge cream head. Aromas of candied figs, and other Belgian characteristics. Flavors of the same and some pear notes. This is a wonderful beer that I wouldnt mind getting some more of!

Perfect appearence. Deep ruby color with a full, long lasting head of a light tan. Fairly nice nose, with a lot of Belgian character. Plentiful dark fruits (cherries, dates, plums,) and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is loaded with tons of depth. Deep caramel and honey glaze, with dark fruits. It’s a really nice beer and very Belgian. I think this series from Boulevard shows their brewing skill.

Bright, fresh ,multifruit ester aroma, banana, apricot, and brown sugar dominating, taste is much more baked caramel, cola, and alcohol with those fruit esters, becoming almost invisible, wish those esters were a little more evident in flavor. Still an enjoyable Quad, and this brew will drop kick you into Oz, Don’t drink it when your extremely thirsty like I did.

The bottle poured dark caramel color with no light penetration, and fluffy tan head. Settles with no lacing. Intense sweet aroma of brown sugar and banana with undertones of burnt hardwood. The flavor is sweet down the middle with spice in the cheeks, like cinnamon. Tart and full bodied, this beer almost needs a companion, like carrot cake. Itís delicious, but this is all about the sugars, no hops to finish, at least that I detect. Itís an elixir.

Bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, tupalev & jerc -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Batch #67334. Pours a hazy orange-brown with an average size lasting frothy off-white head. Strong aroma of alcohol, spices, yeast, fruit and sugar. Flavour of sweet malt and fruit along with alcohol, yeast, sugar and caramel. Medium to full bodied, sticky mouthfeel. This is relatively well done, and I donít mind it, but itís not really my thing -- too boozy and sugary.

Bottle shared with Greg Clow, Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, and Jerc, courtesy of Jerc (I think?). Spicy soft malt aroma. Dark fiery brown, small to medium foamy white head. Great taste, surprisingly sweet - lots of caramel. Lots of alcohol, great foamy body, spicy finish. Very good!

In the bottle at the 2008 Crescent Moon Extreme Beerfest. The sweetness is what is overwhelming to me about this beer. In fact, itís like a liquid bottle of tootsie roll pops. A bit too much for me, but very fun and unique.

Thanks for sharing Yaniv! Brown reddish with a thin light tan head. Big date filled dark fruit maltiness. Alcohol. A bit full and fruity. A bit like a very heavy Westy 12. Average carbonation, with a slight viscosity. A bit creamy. Alcohol over dark fruit. Dates. A lingering alcohol astringency. Heat. Reminds me a bit of Westy in the flavor too, but much much heavier.
