"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Another great Smokestack offering. Nice aroma with yeast and bread but not as strong as most Quads. Dark amber color with plenty of particulates floating around. Light head. Smooth palate with a medium weight and pretty easy to drink. I was expecting a little funkiness as the yeast appeared to have gone into the glass but there wasn’t any. Clean flavors of soft and bready malts, grainy as well. Not much of a hops presence and the alcohol was well hidden. A solid effort.

0.355l bottle. Slightly hazy orange body, huge off-white head. Aroma of bread, caramel, orange zest and floral hops. Taste of bread, orange zest, dark sugar, toast and floral hops. It’s OK, but not that bold what I expect from a quad.

Bottles from total wine in fl. Everything you expect in a quad. Rich aroma. Sweet molasses flavor with a strong kick. Good stuff, esp for a quad made in Missouri

It pours amber with some orange tinge to it. It has a tan head with Belgian lace. It has aromas of cherries, plums, leather, earthly elements, alcohol, bread, and an overall sweetness to the initial taste. There are flavors of cherries, plums, earthly elements alcohol, bread, and fruity esters. There is a somewhat heavy feel to it with some tartness and a very high level of carbonation. Overall, this is a complex fruity and yeast laden beer with an initial sweetness and a slightly tart finish.

Pour is a deep still buttery brown, rich with a creamy head that lasts a tiny bit. Smell is yeast, basement smell, licorice, leather. Taste is the pleasant side of yeast, leather, and a nice floral or grassy background. small lingering leathery / smoky aftertaste

Small bottle (from beergium), BB 12.2017. A gusher (points removed from overall). Pours maber with beige head. The head stays for some time. Aroma is sweet, malt, fresh fruits, caramel, malt. Flavor is sweet and bitter, fruits, caramel, dark plums, some metallic notes and bitterness. Finish is dry bitter with very noticeable alcohol. Overall: drinkable, but how the hell is this so highly rated?!

Wow....unsure if I have been just dealing in the land of mediocre non-IPAs or what, but this is really good. I did not have high hopes for it going in, so grabbed it when I wanted "just a beer before work". Clearly surpassed my expectations. Dark cloudy amber with a decent size offwhite (slightly yellow) head. Not done with the beer and still a pretty thick lacing. The smell of yeast (smells like a Belgium yeast strain to me....the only kind I can usually pick out) and dark fruits like prunes or plums. Has some carbonation in it, but not overly much. Nice malt, dark fruit, yeast balanced flavors. 10.5% alcohol but cannot feel an alcohol burn. This will be a repeat buy. Might be a go to for this style when I don’t want to spend the extra money for a Westmalle or Chimay.

Bottle 1 year past best before date. Pours very clear amber. Highly carbonated with huge yellow head. Aroma of berries, toffee, candi sugar. Lightly smoked. Noticeable alcohol. Full bodied. Medium bitterness. Slightly astringent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Taste is the same, malty sweet, toffee, caranel, some roasted malts. Hard to believe its over 10% abv. Awesome beer.
