COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Very potent (over 10% alcohol content) but a very good beer. Its a stronger beer that doesn’t taste like a stronger beer. Good ale taste with hint of fruit (fig and date)

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2014 Very complex with all sorts of malt, yeast and fruit working together in harmony. Notable alcohol warmth and a long gently bitter finish.

Pours an attractive amber color. Nose is a little funky - not all that pleasant. Taste is some maple, caramel but the alcohol is not well hidden and I struggled with the taste through a lot of carbonation. I don't love this style of beer - I am sure others will like it more, but just ok for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer coats the tongue, a feeling which remains long after any given sip. My first tasting of this beer was probably a little too cold. The beer has a taste which I am told is called malt. Its aroma is that of bread (possibly oatmeal bread or banana bread). This beer is... fruitish in a way that caused me to write "sort of... cider-y taste?" and "sweet-syrupy taste, feel?" I had the image, while drinking this beer, of fruits at the bottom of a tree, which is an image I have had with other beers. It was a little too bitter, a problem which seemed to lessen as it warmed up. As you get down to the last sips in the glass, each has a different under-taste, which I can only assume is the result of a greater amount of yeast in each of the sips. Pair with some sort of protein and rice with light touches of soy sauce and sesame seed oil.

Bottle. A- Figs, dates, nutmeg, cinnamon, spice, malty, sweet. A- Dark auburn color, chunky liquid, beige head. T- Dates, nutmeg, spices, malty, slightly sweet, oak, alcohol, butterscotch, soy. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth malty finish. O- At first sight and smell I loved this beer. Then I looked closer and saw all the yeast floating around like nasty backwash. I hate that. Always ruins a beer for me. I tried to look past it but couldn’t. None the less, this is a pretty darn good beer that probably deserves a better rating than I gave it.

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Paper hotel cup From: Total Wine in Ballantyne (Charlotte), N.C. Price: $2.99 Purchased: July 30, 2014 Consumed: Aug. 2, 2014 Misc.: Best by March 10, 2016 Poured a caramel, amber color with 3-to-4 fingers of khaki tan, orange head. Good amount of layered lacing along the sides of the cup. Good retention on the top all the way down. Smelled caramel, cloves, banana, honey, boozy, tropical hops and Belgian spices. Tasted boozy, caramel, rye, citrus notes, tropical hops, mango, Belgian spices, cloves, banana and earthy notes. Medium body. Creamy-to-oily texture. Average carbonation. Earthy, boozy finish. Not as good as I’d hoped. The other Belgians from Boulevard were much better.

I feel like this is a could of been beer. The best part about this beer is it's high alcohol content. The taste is nice, with the dark fruit Belgian style. However, it is too carbonated for me -- a little less and it would be perfect for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Plum, cherry, fig, raisin, caramel, toffee, biscuit, molasses, yeast, spice, malt and slight alcohol flavors. Full body and tons of carbonation. Slightly sweet with a biscuit, dark fruit, malt and warming alcohol finish.

Pour from bottle in San Antonio Texas (6af5). Deep amber pour with lasting tan head, this full bodied sweet beer masks it's alcohol well. Good for a glass. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark ambor color with a rich head. As the beer settles, there are notes of caramel, toffee and bourbon. The flavor hangs with a mild hop and malty alcohol bite. Head pours a light tan to off white color. Tight bubbles with a low to moderate head retention. Creamy, caramel flavor from the head. At first opening (12 oz bottle), there is a bit of fizz for this style of beer; however, it settles nicely. Complimentary pairing with a bergenost cheese. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
