COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

The shape of the bottle, the quirky label artwork, and the Boulevard Brewing Co. name engraved on the neck gave off a very European vibe. The body looked a little paler than a typical Quad, with the color of mahogany. The head was fizzy and short lived, settling down to a lacy collar. The smell had fragrances of apricot, hazelnut, and pear. The flavor was delicately sweet and a bit spicy. I could taste raisin, pears, saffron, toffee, and chili pepper. The aftertaste was sweet like hard candy, until abruptly being cut off by yeasty dryness. Quite sticky in the mouth, and not quite as velvety smooth like the true Belgian varieties. The beer would have benefited from some darker malts to further enhance the date and fig flavors mentioned on the label, and add complexity.

Very large light orange head of medium bubbles that reduces slowly with very good carbonation. Rich carmale and toffee aroma with some toasted grains, cherries and tea leaves. Color is a hazy dark caramel. Thiner body and lighter malt bill than expected makes this brew seem overly hot. Mild roasted grains, light caramel and minimal sweetness. More cherries late swallow and some metallic/mineral flavors present. This is a bit of a disappointment actually. Finishes warm and rather dry. A decent brew but not a very good quad.

Bottle at home. Pours amber brown with slow-receding tan head. Wild yeast on the nose with ripe fruit in the mix. Rich aroma. Flavor opens slightly fruity, quickly developing into burst of malt and alcohol, with underpinnings of wild yeast. Warm, lingering finish. Rich mouthfeel. Very tasty, though alcohol comes through a little strong on this one. I enjoy the kick, but others may find it too bracing.

Pours a hazy amber with a thick, lasting beige head. Aroma of banana, plums, raisins, and bread. Full bodied, rich, and warming. Tastes fruity, bold malts, toffee, and Belgian yeast. A wonderful, flavorful sipper that is deceptively drinkable at 10.5%.

Pours reddish brown with a thick, persistent head. Smells of stone fruit and malt, mild for a quad. Tastes rich and malty as it should be for the style. An exceptional brew overall.

Cloves and sweet malt on the aroma. Appearance is a cloudy copper with a white head. Flavor is full of cloves and malty sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium with medium high carbonation. Overall, the beer lacks the complexity of a Belgian quad and it's also too light in color. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Garnet in color with big frothy/creamy head. Some faint dark fruit flavors, raisin, plum. Belgian yeast. Pretty easy drinking for the ABV, alcohol is well hidden. Some Belgian sugar sweetness, but not overbearing. Decent.

Bottle courtesy Aaron. Classic quad. Tasty and aweseome. Some dark fruit, mild booze, and quaffable.
