No. 8 in the Boulevard Smokestack Series. "Double Witbier"

Conventional wisdom holds that there are two sides to every story. Though our new Two Jokers Double-Wit is hardly conventional, there are in fact two distinct pieces to its personality. On the one hand, it’s a revival of the classic Belgian “wit,” or “white” beer, a style dating back to the late 1800s. The use of lactic fermentation and ingredients like coriander and orange peel are hallmarks of the style, as are the cloudiness and the pale color that give the beer its name. On the other hand, it’s a modern, uniquely American specialty brew; big, flavorful, and spiced with cardamom, lavender, and grains of paradise. Two Jokers has a refreshing tartness, nicely balanced by a well rounded malt bill graced by notes of caramel. Belgian yeast brings floral aromas with hints of banana and clove, and a citrusy zing to the tongue. Two Jokers Double-Wit pairs well with the lighter fare of spring and summer, such as grilled fish or chicken, feta cheese, fresh garden salads, and fruit compotes.

Draught at Oskar Blues. Hazy amber color, white head. Sweet taste with citrus, ripe fruits, honey, sugar, wheat and grass. ‭Sweet finish with citrus, earthy notes, ripe fruits and sugar. Decent brew, but way too sweet.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange with big, quickly settling white head and minimal lace. Aroma is big citrus, lavender and cardamom. Tastes citrus, mildly tart, coriander and orange with a wheaty, citrus finish. Very drinkable. Soft carbonation, light body, and smooth texture.

A tall frothy smooth white head settles to a solid ring and large thin island over a hazed golden straw body

Woody dank herbaceous notes initially flood the aroma leading to juicy, creamy, lemony tropical characteristics building into banana then to a layer of smooth green melon, a subtle cleansing influence from the grains of paradise keeps the creamy notes moving on a smooth medium weight body with well restrained carbonation, the residual offers just a touch of tart yogurt as the fruit characteristics rotate through

Solid intensity, decent complexity, mostly smooth transitions with the herbal components sticking out a bit at this age, would love to see this in the lil’ smokie format

2014 release. Cloudy straw body, with a soapy white head. Light lacing. Nose is herbaceous and spicy - slightly citric. Taste is lightly tart, again citric, and many of the spicy notes from the nose aren't apparent. Velvety texture, yet also crisp on the palette. Really nice summertime beer - very reminiscent of a seasoned gose. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy yellow with huge head. Aroma is clove, various other spices. Taste has a huge lemony-sweet quality. Spices in the background as well as banana. Creamy, slick mouth feel. Overall the aroma and taste are both a little disappointing, but this is a good beer. Interesting, to say the least.

Bottle, 2014 re-release. Pours cloudy yellow with small off-white head. Aroma is spice, banana, wheat, grassy hops, lemon, and fragrant lavender. Very herbal/floral. Taste is creamy wheat, lemon, sour orange. Good.

Pours a murky amber yellow with a nice white head with good lacing. Aroma is floral, spicy and fruity with a big scent of lavender and the cardamom with citrus and lemon. Taste is similar with the citrus flavors blending with the sweet and spicy coriander and cardamom. Lavender brings a definite floral aspect and there is a noticeable tart character. Finishes with some spices and a bit of tartness. Light/ medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A unique tasting witbier with some depth of flavor but was a bit much for my palate. The spicing overpowered the flavor for me. Had on tap at Rock and Run Brewery.

750 ml bottle, 2011 batch, amber, clear, tan foam, herbs, spices, medium body, average carbonation, overall a nice beer, found it in my smokestack fridge, wasn’t sure it would still be good but, surprisingly, still very good.

750 ml bottle, thanks going to Skyview on finding this from my want list, big thanks Bob! Bottled in April 2011. Pale malts with plenty of citrus and zesty yeast.

Flavor is right in line with the nose. Citrus upfront with zesty yeast and sweet malty finish. The carbonation is real soft with the texture on the lightly chewy side. Balanced well. After all this time in a bottle it still is a highly drinkable Wit. Glad to have had a chance to try it!

2011 bottle on the disquento rack at a local liquor store. From notes. Loads of citrus with a decent spicy pepper kick. Not bad, especially for $3
