COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

No. 8 in the Boulevard Smokestack Series. "Double Witbier"

Conventional wisdom holds that there are two sides to every story. Though our new Two Jokers Double-Wit is hardly conventional, there are in fact two distinct pieces to its personality. On the one hand, it’s a revival of the classic Belgian “wit,” or “white” beer, a style dating back to the late 1800s. The use of lactic fermentation and ingredients like coriander and orange peel are hallmarks of the style, as are the cloudiness and the pale color that give the beer its name. On the other hand, it’s a modern, uniquely American specialty brew; big, flavorful, and spiced with cardamom, lavender, and grains of paradise. Two Jokers has a refreshing tartness, nicely balanced by a well rounded malt bill graced by notes of caramel. Belgian yeast brings floral aromas with hints of banana and clove, and a citrusy zing to the tongue. Two Jokers Double-Wit pairs well with the lighter fare of spring and summer, such as grilled fish or chicken, feta cheese, fresh garden salads, and fruit compotes.

750 cc from Capone’s. Pours hazy golden with fizzy white head. Nose was limey citrus, hops, coriander. Tasted lightly yeasty, champagney, with heavy carbonation, notes of lime, citrus hops, and pale malt, and a crisp finish.

Pours a dark bronze color with a quick fading white head with no lacing to be seen. Aroma of citrus, funk, and banana. Taste is forward with a tart sour fruit followed by a nice sweetness that finishes clean and leaves a certain effervescence on the palate. Really enjoy this one

The double wit seemed a little too sour for my palate. If you like a sour beer this will make you happy.

Very light aroma with orange, and lemon notes jumping out, with some other spices in the background. Pours a clear light straw with a thin white head and very visible carbonation. There’s a lot going on in this beer, it starts with notes of lemon, which quickly changes over to lavender and cardamom. The alcohol is really well hidden, and the carbonation keeps the palate clear. This is an excellent beer.

Bottle to glass. Pours a cloudy yellow with a fluffy white head. Aroma was fruity, floral, and spicey. Taste was tons of spices, orange, lavender, coriander, and tart. A bit sour, but good. A bit too many spices for me, but not a bad beer at all.

Bottle from Total Wine, Sacramento. Pours cloudy blonde with an attractive white head and a floral fruity aroma. There is a fruity wheat an caramel flavor with finish of multiple spices. More like a mildly sour beer than a witbier. Pretty tasty though.
