COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

No. 8 in the Boulevard Smokestack Series. "Double Witbier"

Conventional wisdom holds that there are two sides to every story. Though our new Two Jokers Double-Wit is hardly conventional, there are in fact two distinct pieces to its personality. On the one hand, it’s a revival of the classic Belgian “wit,” or “white” beer, a style dating back to the late 1800s. The use of lactic fermentation and ingredients like coriander and orange peel are hallmarks of the style, as are the cloudiness and the pale color that give the beer its name. On the other hand, it’s a modern, uniquely American specialty brew; big, flavorful, and spiced with cardamom, lavender, and grains of paradise. Two Jokers has a refreshing tartness, nicely balanced by a well rounded malt bill graced by notes of caramel. Belgian yeast brings floral aromas with hints of banana and clove, and a citrusy zing to the tongue. Two Jokers Double-Wit pairs well with the lighter fare of spring and summer, such as grilled fish or chicken, feta cheese, fresh garden salads, and fruit compotes.

Bottle 75 cl. Hazy and opaque yellow with a white head. Very spicy almost chili-like nose. Medium body, lightly lactic tartness and gingery notes, again very spicy and hot with a yeasty edge. No bitterness but a light tartness in the finish. Very interesting. 110709

Cloudy orange - gold beer. Big fluffy white head. Light dry palate. Dry seltzer minerals and wheaty malt. Sharp sherbet orange with a trace of lemon. Finishes seltzerish and dry. Tasty wheat, just a bit too dry.

Bottle from Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa. Pours hazy orange gold with a 4 finger white head. Aromas of coriander and likely orange zest. Spice. Medium plus body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is wheat, orange zest, banana?, and clove. Sure it’s banana. Finishes rather clove. Not a light beer. Really pretty good stuff. Peppery bits started popping up. Yum.

Bottle shared at Noogfest High 5. Poured hazy orange yellow color with a medium frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate yeasty sour citrus and herbs aroma. Medium body with a tingly smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy citrus sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where met with an above average beer for style.

Battle courtesy of CaptainCougar at DC’s first tasting of 2010. Golden color with a tiny head and slight lacing. Lots of citrus, pepper and other spice in the aroma and flavor. OK, but not well balanced.

750 ml corked and caged bottle poured a hazy golden amber with a large lasting ivory head. Aromas of wheat, coriander, cardomom, citrus and yeast. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of wheat, orange zest, cardomom, light coriander, light yeast and a hint of lavender with a crisp lightly dry lingering spiced finish.
