3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 phaleslu (3541) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 26, 2009
Draft at Cicero’s in the U-City Loop. Somewhat cloudy clear gold color with a tiny white head. Lemony, alcoholic aroma with some yeast and sweet malt. The flavor is also citrusy and alcoholic, with notes of spices, pepper, yeast, and hops. Not as smooth or easy to drink as a lot of other saisons, probably because of the alcohol, but also because it’s a bit spicier. Light bodied and sharp. Interesting take on the style.

Flavor is slightly sweet pale malt, yeast, spices and pepper, slight barnyard, wheat, pear, and a great citrusy hop kick. Fairly complex and tasty. Somewhat full body for the style with medium carbonation and some nice warming alcohol. Very solid.

Tap at Barley’s in Shawnee, KS. Cloudy dark gold orange with a nice long lasting egg shell white head. Nice fruity smell of pears and grapefruit. Some close spice. The taste of spicy orange zest and clove are up front. There is some nice toasted bread and almonds. Slightly boozy finish. A little big and spicy, but it works for this tasty beer.

On tap at Flying Saucer in Kansas City. Cloudy gold pour with a big pillowy white head, strong spicy aroma layered over yeast and a bit of lemon peel.
Flavors dominated by Belgian yeast, a bit of clove, the lemon peel from the aroma, and a nice, smooth malty base.
Lightly carbonated, even a bit creamy. Crisp finish, meant for the warmth of summer, but a nice palate-cleanser prior to Canadian Breakfast Stout!
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 elihapa (1385) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - SEP 30, 2009
9/29/09 notes: GABF Friday, sampled twice. So basically I was told this is Saison-Brett without the brett. It tastes like it, which unfortunately is just a layer of pure goodness pulled from the flavor and aroma profile. Leathery, dried fruit lead the way, along with faint citrus. But this beer pales in comparison to the former.
