Draft. Aroma of peppermint, faint bourbon and tropical fruit, honeyish sweetness, wood and light citrus in the background. Very unusual combination of traits here. Hazy light golden amber color, head is very fine and slight. Flavor profile is lightly minty throughout, luckily not more so, some faint whiskey and alcohol becoming apparent about midpoint, then seeing the more expected malty sweetness, wood and fruit character appearing late, and finishing warm and smooth. Very low in effervescence, body is certainly full enough. Better than anticipated, to be quite honest. I think this is due to the mint being very much present and detectable, but not overwhelming, and the balance seems like it would be tough to pull off. Definitely not something I would order regularly, though, even if given the chance to. Thanks to Boulevard for the chance to try this outside of the brewery!

On tap. Comes a slightly cloudy gold with a small white head. Aroma of mint and more mint. Taste is dominated by the peppermint leaves added. Not enough of the Belgian comes through for my taste.

9oz Draft A - Pours a cloudy golden hue with a one finger white head. Ok retention. Good lacing. S - Mint-citrus bubblegum. A boozy tingle on the nose. T - Sour, funk, biscuit, and mint. Odd, but intresting. Alcohol is hidden well. M - Medium bodied. Faint carbonation. Long mint finish. O - Glad KC got some love. Wish it tasted more like it smelled. That said, strangely enjoyable.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2013 Dempsey’s in Lawrence; on tap into Blvd tulip. Golden and cloudy, low clarity. Small head. Aroma is definitely minty like a bit of toothpaste thrown into a strong beer. Surrounded by warming alcohol, a bit like beer mouthwash. Sweet Belgian underneath that with heft. Flavor starts off with faint banana hard alcohol candy and then comes along minty finish. I like it, cool. It’s like sweet mint and alcohol. Probably exactly what the brewers wanted. Thick body with lighter carbonation.

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2013 On tap, pours hazy golden yellow with small white bubbles. The aroma is oak and mint with a big sweetness. The taste is hearty and full with a strong golden Belgian body but big mint kick and boozy oak with a light hearted bourbon touch. Very heady, for the adventurous, it finishes smooth and sparkling with bold carbonation. Big Belgian alcohol feel, sugar to the face with a bourbon touch that makes the mint work. The more I drink the less the mint seems to pervade, it becomes the big smooth triple with a hint of barrel and a tugging little minty reminder mostly in the aftertaste. Interesting, strange, unique, not at all bad though. Kudos boulevard. --From notes this may be unrelated, unlabeled bottle from brewery with stamp on neck "Christmas ale". Pours dark amber honey like with of white head. Taste is strange with a bright malty Belgian flair and an earthy spice and palate. Behind an intense wide varied array of flavors there is a spearmint or peppermint leaf that lingers with the oddly spiced Belgian flavors. I kind of don?t know what to make of it, while it?s not bad it?s just a bit of a smattering on the palate.--

At 2012 Avery Strong Ale Fest. Hazy dark golden with a thick pillowy head. Aroma is interesting mix of Belgian light fruitiness and dry tart mint with a touch of pale grains and dusty yeastiness. Flavor is crisp and full, with notes of cereal grains, dusty yeast, light Belgian malty fruitiness, and a touch of bubblegum and toast, and a light mint essence.

Boulder Strong Ale Fest. Cloudy, dark golden appearance with a white head. Minty, spicy Belgian yeasty, a touch boozy, citrusy, light whiskey aroma. Tangy, organic, spicy/minty, orange citrusy, a bit spicy yeasty, somewhat boozy/whiskey flavor. Kind of seemed all over the place.
