COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

No. 8 in the Boulevard Smokestack Series. "Double Witbier"

Conventional wisdom holds that there are two sides to every story. Though our new Two Jokers Double-Wit is hardly conventional, there are in fact two distinct pieces to its personality. On the one hand, it’s a revival of the classic Belgian “wit,” or “white” beer, a style dating back to the late 1800s. The use of lactic fermentation and ingredients like coriander and orange peel are hallmarks of the style, as are the cloudiness and the pale color that give the beer its name. On the other hand, it’s a modern, uniquely American specialty brew; big, flavorful, and spiced with cardamom, lavender, and grains of paradise. Two Jokers has a refreshing tartness, nicely balanced by a well rounded malt bill graced by notes of caramel. Belgian yeast brings floral aromas with hints of banana and clove, and a citrusy zing to the tongue. Two Jokers Double-Wit pairs well with the lighter fare of spring and summer, such as grilled fish or chicken, feta cheese, fresh garden salads, and fruit compotes.

On tap at Bier Station in Kansas City. Arrived in a tulip glass. A: Arrived a cloudy orange-gold, with a decent pale head that left some appreciable lacing. S: I was sitting right next to an open kitchen, so my sense of smell was a little muddled. However, citrus notes leap out of the glass with this beer, primarily orange, like walking through an orange grove a bit past harvest time. Some spice and herb notes are also present, though well below the citrus. T: See the description of the smell. This beer packs a serious orange-citrus punch, alongside a pronounced spicey-herbal presence. Orange juice and peel tastes abound, mixed with heavy coriander, lavender, and hints of white pepper. As the beer goes along, a slight touch of lactic sourness makes itself known around the edges of the citrus blast. M: Lively and sparkling, this has the right amount of carbonation sharpness to it. O: A very enjoyable experience, and the first Boulevard offering I’ve liked out of what I’ve tried. Had I been able to find a case of this, it would have come home with me.

Taste is sweet malt, wheat, candied fruit, spices, citrus zest and yeast. Body is medium with lots of prickly carbonation. .75 bottle. Hazy yellow golden. Spicy nose- coriander, citrus lemons, malty yeast. Good bodied, wheaty, thick malty, lots of citrus again. Feels bit acidic, dry bitter. Almost a tripel, but too bitter lemony.

750 ml bottle. BB 02/2015. From a trade with jcnielsen. Thanks a lot Justin!
Cloudy golden colour with a small white head. Really strong spicy aroma. The flavour is yeast, mild tartness, citrus and a lot of spices. Some alcohol there too. Too much spices for me. I like more traditional Witbier.

Medium sourness, lightly bitter, light sweetness, grass, citrus, light body, lively, long finish, pale, hazy, frothy. I think it’s a bit too sour for the style and that lingers a bit too long. The aroma is really striking, complex, yummy.

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2014 Pours a dark bronze color with a quick fading white head with no lacing to be seen. Aroma of citrus, funk, and banana. Taste is forward with a tart sour fruit followed by a nice sweetness that finishes clean and leaves a certain effervescence on the palate. Really enjoy this one
