Commercial Description:

No. 8 in the Boulevard Smokestack Series. "Double Witbier"

Conventional wisdom holds that there are two sides to every story. Though our new Two Jokers Double-Wit is hardly conventional, there are in fact two distinct pieces to its personality. On the one hand, it’s a revival of the classic Belgian “wit,” or “white” beer, a style dating back to the late 1800s. The use of lactic fermentation and ingredients like coriander and orange peel are hallmarks of the style, as are the cloudiness and the pale color that give the beer its name. On the other hand, it’s a modern, uniquely American specialty brew; big, flavorful, and spiced with cardamom, lavender, and grains of paradise. Two Jokers has a refreshing tartness, nicely balanced by a well rounded malt bill graced by notes of caramel. Belgian yeast brings floral aromas with hints of banana and clove, and a citrusy zing to the tongue. Two Jokers Double-Wit pairs well with the lighter fare of spring and summer, such as grilled fish or chicken, feta cheese, fresh garden salads, and fruit compotes. Look closely now: is it two jesters on the label, or a single beautiful glass of beer?

bottle. slightly hazed orange body, thick white head that slides down to a nice level quickly. incredibly strong pepper scent, a lingering orange peel and something like rum. pepper comes through in the flavor, lingering banana, strong booze flavor. thick mouthfeel. finishes with a big lemon, and a surprising plum flavor. enjoyable citrus flavor, but this pepper is a bit over the top. tangerine, plum finish is really making me happy here. the warmer this gets, the more i like it. a bit of grapeskin. this is a surprise for me. a damn good one. 4 6 7 5 16

Pours hazy goldish. Smell is like menthol eucalyptis. Taste is minty, wheaty and not that enjoyable. Didn’t care much for the minty flavor in the witbier. Not interested in having this again.

Bottle. Pours a dingy light orange with a massive sudsy head. Aromas are spicy and have a bit of oranges and a bit of honey like sweetness. Flavor is interesting enough... I’m not sure what is going on, but there is a citrus/acidic tartness to this that makes it pretty interesting... It’s not like a sour ale type pucker, but more like a not quite ripe orange or something. In addition to that, this comes off as well balanced and interesting with nice little side currents of spice and malt that tie in nicely. As this warms a bit it takes a much less aggressive orange flavor and starts to have a peachiness to it that comes off as less sharp and even better.

Typical wit color hazy golden with a pure white and large head. Saison like aroma of apricot, orange peel, corriander, sour apple, biscuit, and cookie. Refreshing beer. Some sips seem slightly undercarbonated, while others seem more normal of the belgian style. Not my favorite style, however, this is a good effort and solidifies Boulevard as one of my newer solid breweries.

Pours hazy orange gold with a thick white head. Aroma is apricot and banana fruit, corriander spice, wheat malt, slight alc? Flavour is Orange, apricot, banana fruits some honey sweetness, spice again and some floral (the lavender I guess) light bitterness. Interesting, though not as tart or crisp as I’d like.

Pours deep orange / amber with a large light beige head. The aroma has rich wheat, lots of orange, lightly powdery, spices and quite a bit of yeast - nice. Medium / full body with some crispness and good amount of sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with rich wheat, lots of orange, lactic acid, power, but still a good bit of sweetness. The taste is fairly crisp considering the high alcohol. The finish has quite a bit of spice. Very nice beer from Boulevard.

Bottle, thanks to Eugene at the grand tasting. Thick blond pour. Strong banana and candy sugar aroma typical of belgian triples. So, i think a double white is like a belgian triple. Pretty sweet and tasty, syrupy a little in the mouthfeel.

Bottle. Beautiful hazy orangeish brown pour, with a one finger foamy off white head. Aroma of pleasant fruitiness, including, oranges, cherries, spices such as pepper, coriander and clove. Flavor has some tartness and bitterness, and some orange, lemon peel, and bread/yeast.
