COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat Beer is a lively, refreshing ale with a naturally citrusy flavor and distinctive cloudy appearance. It is reminiscent of the wheat beers that were brewed at the turn of the century, before the advent of modern filtration. This easy-drinking American-style wheat beer has become our most popular offering, and the best-selling craft beer in the Midwest. 2008 GABF gold medal winner in Session Beer category.

On tap at Bob’s Your Uncle Pizza Cafe in Iowa City, IA. Fairly timid wheat beer, the only citrus spice was from the lemon that was served with the beer. Nice deep hazy yellow colour, drinkable, not exceptional. Strangly over carbonated.

Bottle from Sikeston, MO. Mild flavor, mildly sweet, light, not offensive. Not anything to get too excited about, but it’s better than BMC (this happened to be the only ’other’ beer available).

Bottle rating. Lemon grass, somewhat faint aroma, albeit a pleasing one for what it is. Pale yellow color. Unfiltered cloudy, normally a good sign. Flavor is a let down, however. Thin and overcarbonated. I don’t expect much from the american wheat style, but there are better ones out there. This one probably beats Leinie’s honey weiss but not many others.

(Tap) Pours hazy yellow/orange with a small head. Some hoppy notes, but overall wheaty. Medium body. Some fruity notes as well. Not bad for an American Wheat.

On tap Pizza Shoppe in Kearney, MO Yelllow and hazy. It doesn’t have a lot of flavor with or without a lemon. Still better than a macro lager. This beer seems to be on tap everywhere in the Kansas City area.

Eh ... an overly wheated beer. Just bland and unimaginative. Left me wondering why I ordered it.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2007 From bottle in Iowa City, Iowa. Classic wheat look....yellow, hazy, and with a lemon slice on the glass. Moderate white head with average lacing. Nose of citrus and banana. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean. A lttle tart in the finish. A decent wheat, but not anywhere near to the standard set by German beers.

This is the first disappointed from Boulevard Brewing. This was a very light tasting wheat beer that is better on draught, but still lacking flavor. It tasted better when I added some lemon and would be ok on a hot day.

Tap. Man, this stuff is ubiquitous in KC. Do the bars lose their liquor license if they don’t offer it? Anyway, it pours like any other wheat. Hazy, yellow and a frothy white head on top. Subtle, but citrusy aroma. Surprisingly, the wheat aspect is in check. Mouthfeel was very sharp, especially for a lower alcohol wheat beer. Maybe it was the citrus, maybe there was a bit of spice, but there was something that made me look twice at it, and after a few glasses, I still couldn’t decide if I liked it or not. Again, the wheat aspect was subtle. Decent and refreshing.
