COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat Beer is a lively, refreshing ale with a naturally citrusy flavor and distinctive cloudy appearance. It is reminiscent of the wheat beers that were brewed at the turn of the century, before the advent of modern filtration. This easy-drinking American-style wheat beer has become our most popular offering, and the best-selling craft beer in the Midwest. 2008 GABF gold medal winner in Session Beer category.

You gotta judge this beer as a wheat beer and not against testosterone-releasing stouts and barleywines. It's flavors are more subtle and fruity so maybe it's politically correct for the metrosexual. This is a straw colored brew with fine carbonation and no head. The aroma is faintly citrus. The palate is dominated by a lemon overtone and subtle hops with a lingering acidity and wheat aftertaste that stalls on the palate. It goes down well when thirsty and excels as a summer brew. Probably my favorite from this brewery. The draft version is a bit less bitter and I would rate higher.

Braudog (5627) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - JAN 1, 2004
Light golden and still with virtually no head. Lemony aroma. This has a citric-malt flavor with little to no yeast character at all. This is a decent light ale for summertime, just don't expect a German-style hefe.

Clean, slightly citrusy aroma. Smooth sour wheat meets sweet pale malt flavor. Lively carbonation. Hazy yellow with tiny ring of lace. Not for German hefe lovers. Luckily, I am not one of those. Refreshing, quality, reasonably priced beer. Good with spicy food and with or without lemon wedge. Bonus- availiable year round instead of just summer.

JMerritt (1790) - Macomb, Illinois, USA - DEC 12, 2003
Cloudy yellow-orange with steady stream of bubbles rising from the center of the glass. The small white head drops to nothingness after only a few moments. Light pink bubblegum and apricot aroma. Rather high carbonation level is distracting. Lightly sour flavor, fresh grain flavor is in there somewhere, but comes and goes before you have a chance to enjoy it. Aftertaste contains the brunt of the wheat flavor.

Gromit (479) - Port Orchard, Washington, USA - DEC 12, 2003
Pours a very light orange color with a decent head that went away quickly leaving no lace behind. Scent is faint, but mostly of hops with some diacytle in there? Taste is, well, average. Admittedly, I'm not much of a hefe fan anyway, but this is just run of the mill. It tastes like a typical American hefe, only the taste is weak. It's better than Widmer, but not by much. Mouthfeel is somewhat creamy but it lacks carbonation. Usually wheat beers have a more cleansing feel to them. Overall this isn't bad but it's certainly nothing to write home about.

(Draught) Pours a cloudy yellow with a medium white head. Drinkable, but too citrusy for my taste.

Not my favorite wheat beer. I've had better, ie: Easy Street but this is acceptable swill.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2010 Bottled Conditioned...best by 08/24/2003.This beer had a small sized white head that was smooth with fine sized bubbles completely dissipated in time. The body had a little carbonation, yeasty and slightly cloudy with a pale yellow hue.The nose was fruity and that was all that I could detect with this beer as it lacks aroma. The flavor was somewhat fruity and citrusy and rather bland at that. The palate was tingly in the back of my throat yet somewhat smooth, watery and thin textured and light bodied. There was very sparse lacing on the sides of my glass. This beer needs more character and flavor even though it was very drinkable in my opinion. Tap - 1/27/10 - Small white head that has good retention, hazy, good amount of lacing, visible carbonation, and a pale yellow hue. The aroma is malty, wheat, yeasty, citrusy, refreshing, and crisp. The flavor mimicks the aroma, but did not pick up any malt. The mouthfeel is fairly smooth and this is a medium bodied beer. Overall, an easy to drink beer and would be a decent refreshing summer type beer.

This bottle was labelled best by 08/24/2003. It poured a medium sized head of white colored fine to medium sized mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a softly carbonated straw yellow colored body with a slight haze. It had a mild malt aroma and a slightly bubbly tingly mouthfeel that lingers into the finish but is smooth throughout. The flavor is mild with malt and hop but no bite. This is a very nicely balanced brew with a well balanced flavor. I rather liked it.

When I had this beer in the Westport district in KC, draft style it was most asurdly clouldy and flat. I have this beer before and the flavor was much more present, do not now what happened. It is worth a try if you are ever in KC.
