3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hazy, dirty, dark amber pour with a 2 finger, creamy beige head and high effervescence. Aroma is slightly tangy fruit and grain, cereal, toast, floral and spicy hops and a hint of caramel. Flavor is toast, floral honey, odd sour grainy notes, a bit of caramel spicy and raw rye grain a little grass and floral hops. Light to medium body with a dry, slightly astringent feel throughout, light, but sharp and blanketing carbonation. Decent overall, but it doesnít seem to really stand out on anything other than rye, it could use a distinct hop note or malty character. The more I drink the better it gets, but still, it doesnít really interest me.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. 3/12/14. Pours syrupy, opaque, syrupy brown with a fluffy, bubbly white head. Aroma is subtle; dry, malty, rye, earthy, spicy. Not a ton going on int he aroma. Taste is dry, bitter, bready (yeasty), mild, rye, hint of smoke; finish is dry, fruit peel, wheat and rye malt, leather. Interesting. Lacing is spotty but consistent. Mouth feel is medium bodied, creamy. Carbonation is medium-low but active. Mild, malty, drinkable. At 5.2% ABV, itís almost sessionable. I expected a lot more out of this beer. Itís unfortunately a bit boring. Breaks my heart saying that about a brewery that I am so fond of.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
A- Rye, toast, wheat.
A- Brown color, cloudy liquid, off white head.
T- Rye, malty, toast, wheat, pepper.
P- Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, grainy finish.
O- My first beer brewed with rye. Canít say I was totally in awe but definitely wasnít let down either. I think this was lacking a little bit, but the rye was present and while I probably wouldnít go out of my way for another, the flavors blend decently. Almost tastes like liquid marble rye bread.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pale golden in color, this rye ale is rightly dark and almost murky in appearance. The nose isnít very appealing, with just a touch of dirty, but plain, rye. The flavor is somewhat bright, but muddy on the palate, with a mostly undecorated bouquet. I expected better for some reason, but itís actually very pleasant for the style.

This poured a cloudy gold color with a white head. Nose citrus hops and the rye .Medium plus in body. Flavor is grassy, floral, and citrus hops, and the rye works well here. Bitter rye finish. Well crafted beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Rye beers are intriguing but also odd. Their peppery taste can be excellent or overbearing. Boulevard is known for crafting some masterful beers with rye. Though good, Westside Rye is certainly not an example of mastery. The beer has a dark copper appearance and little head. The aroma is subdued but reasonably complex. Wheat malts create a sweet smell that hints at clove. Thereís also a slightly toasted malt aroma with a touch of spice from the rye. Sadly, the flavor doesnít have as much to offer. Thereís a pleasant sharpness from the rye and a smooth graininess from the other malts, but the end result is underwhelming. All the same, this beer benefits from its balance and refreshing feel. Nothing amazing but itís not a beer you regret having.
