4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 3fourths (6399) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 6, 2005
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2011 Draft at the brewery
Murky semi-dark oange and rust colored. Sweaty, fruity hop oil nose with some grassy notes. Very nice scent. Very punchy and sweet, fruity cocktail flavors abound, with some pear juice, marachino cherries, pineapple and sweet, rich and bittersweet juicy hop cones. Amazing depth and complexity, one of the best IPA in the PNW. Who knows what’s the deal with the bottled version. Fresh draft was other-worldly.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 HoppedHead (106) - seattle, Washington, USA - JUN 9, 2005
pours deep golden/amber hue, minimal head, but it sticks around and to sides of glass, citrus hop aroma, strats with malty sweetness, followed by a rush of bitterness, dry piney and grapefruity, bitterness lingers on the tounge leaving a grapefruity flavor with a sublte sweetness, a fine IPA nice to see in a bottle, still better on draft.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 apost8n8 (123) - Oklahoma, USA - MAY 25, 2005
Orange, cloudy, quite hoppy with a complex spicy flavor. i don’t usually like ipas but this onei’ll have again.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 5000 (4104) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - MAY 3, 2005
Bottle: Orangish golden, dark & cloudy, mediocre white head, foamy, very lasting, chunks of sediment, with nice lacing.   Fresh hop aroma, background of musty/moldy grain.   Decent start, hoppy, bitter, refreshing but immediately followed by a metallic like driftwood flavor, akin to the smell of the ocean - salty seaweed.   Damnit!   Down the drain it goes...
2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Oakes (10184) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 16, 2005
Draught, at the brewery
Cloudy. Light amber colour. Woody, citrusy hop aroma - all hops. The body is a little thin and malts undeveloped. Very woody and bitter - but not balanced. Definitely would want to see this one less attenuated.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JoeMcPhee (6964) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 16, 2005
Cloudy light amber coloured beer. Obvious dry-hopping. Nice resinous hops in the mouth, nice body with a good balance of sweet crystal malts and hoppy bitterness. Piny and citrusy aroma.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 cstuartj (645) - Washington, USA - AUG 16, 2004
On Tap. Poured a dark golden colour, almost a ’thick’ gold colour. small pure white head. Minimal lacing. Nose is simply wonderful, hopy, flowers, pine, earth. Just great. Attack is one of the best IPA attacks I’ve had, huge hop attack, flowers, fruit, just great. Finish doesn’t live up to the attack but is still very good. Very, very bitter/crisp/clean. I really liked this beer.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 kbjames (244) - Utah, USA - AUG 15, 2004
This is a really good IPA that I was able to get on tap. not much head to it but tons of flavor on the attack. The aftertaste is a little bitter, but pretty well done.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Sickboy282 (1109) - San Diego, California, USA - AUG 2, 2004
Pours a orange/amber in hue with a white frothy head. Aromas of pine and all the goodness, but the flavors just didn’t match up. especially the bitter soapy flavor of the finish.
3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 TimE (2065) - Tokyo, JAPAN - MAR 16, 2004
Supremely balanced between biscuity malt and hops, just the perfect IPA in the mouth. Then the finish is weak and not bitter enough. They got it half right anyways.
