duffman462 (156), Gainesville, Florida, USA Apr 3, 2007 On tap at the brewpub. Dark, hazy brown with lots of toffee in the nose. Body is rather syruppy and sweet, not a lot of peat, and a fair bit of hopping. I probably would have rated this one lower if it weren’t brewed a block from my house. It gets convenience points, but I really wouldn’t call this one a scotch ale.
anders37 (2819), Malmö, Sweden Oct 1, 2008 Draught @ the brewpub. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a malty hoppy caramel aroma. Sweetish warming malty bitter hoppy caramel flavor. Malty hoppy bitter caramel finish. HoppyGuy (111), USA Jul 31, 2008 On tap at the Iron Rabbit in Olympia, WA. Pours a dark broze color with a medium beige head. Nice almost-smoky malt aroma with floral undertones. Malty taste upfront with caramel, but a nice balance of hops keeps it from being too sweet. Not as "heavy" as some of the Scotch ales I’ve had, and probably the best. Good brew! I’d like to pair this brew with Kansas City style ribs, cole slaw, and roasted potatoes. BlackDonald (1039), North Carolina, USA Jul 17, 2008 Nicely done! Another textbook style, with just a hint of smokinessm luscious roasted caramel and a hint of chocolate. NIcely done. carruthm (465), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 22, 2008 dark brown with a cream head. roasted oats aroma, bitter taste with a smooth and filliing finish. riversideAK (1755), Shoreline, Washington, USA Nov 15, 2007 Dark brown. No head. Lots going on in the nose. Chocolate and smokey notes backed up by some sweet dark fruit and maybe some tobacco. Flavor is mostly smokey chocolate with some nice fruity aspects as well. Pretty thick with a touch of warmth. Obviously a malt accentuated brew. I think this should be rated higher.
