This is not BRBís best beer, but I disagree with the comment below that Macís HopRocker is a better beer than this. This Bouncing Czech has a clear, well-defined flavour. Simple, un-complex and a bit like a large-print book and a well-made pair of safety shoes. It has got a job to do (it is a Hop Delivery System) and it does it without fanfare. Itís a good, reliable dolt of a labourer; the hops make it through rain or shine. Which is more than can be said of HopRocker.

Bottled. A yellow beer with a ehite head. The aroma has notes spicy hopps, malt, and citrus fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, spicy hops, and citrus fruits, leading to a bitter finish.

Looks like an archetypal pilsner but I note thereís no Saaz hops listed on the label. There is a good herbal, citrus note upon hoovering in lungfuls of aroma, so a tick in the box there. Tart bitterness and orange peel flavours, not too bad, a good summer quencher.

Bottle- Pours a golden color with a nice head that fades to some lacing. Aroma of some citrus, mallt sweetness with trace of herbs and grain. Taste of citrus with a mild malt sweetness. Decent bitterness and a clean finish. Light body, crisp, smooth and refreshing. Decent pilsner that went well with dinner.

Golden colour with mild hop bitterness. I agree with the comments by simonw"boring beer that should never had been made."

If you are going to make a claim such as "a characterful pilsener with explosions of citrus. Itíll bounce round your mouth like a rabbit on a trampoline." then I really hope you have a beer to live up to it.
I poured this into a pint glass, as expected for itís style it pours a nice clear golden colour.
The aroma is a big let down, there isnít much of it, and what there is smells of off corny grain
The taste is much off the same, there is some bitterness coming through from the hops, but Iím not getting any citrus, let alone an íexplosion of citrusí like the packaging claims. This beer is boring, and the only reason I drunk it so fast was to finish it and get on to drinking something with more character (another trait the brewer claims this beer has)... I really wonder what is the point? There are other beers in the style available that are better, the brewer isnít kidding anyone that this is a craft beer, and it offends me that the brewer trys it make it look like one.
If you want a value for money beer in NZ of this style pay a few dollars extra and get a 6 pack of Macs Hop Rocker.
Iíll admit that if I did a blind taste of this beer, without all the packaging, bold claims of citrus explosions, etc, and pretending to be a craft beer (when itís brewed by a company owned by Asahi), Iíd probably rate it higher. But for what it claims to be, this is an incredibly boring beer that should never have been made.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml Bottle, NZD$11.99 in New World for six. Is this the best budget beer in NZ? Nice golden colour, good nose - floral, grass, citrus, herbs. Light to mid body, a bit sticky, not too much carbonation, good hoppy bitterness to it. Malty finish lets it down a bit, but a budget macron beer you can taste.

Cost me eleven dollars for a six pack. Itís not too exciting but exceptional value. Tastes like a decent pilsner; fruit, pear, citrus with a moderate (and unusual for such a low priced beer) hop finish. The presence of biscuity squishy malt lowers the overall deliciousness in my opinion. Overall not bad and certainly better than anything else Iíve tried in this price-range.

Tap at Beervana 2011. A fluffy white head sits atop a deep golden opaque brew. Floral and citrus hoppage backed by biscuity malt and a little bit of earth on the nose. The same citrus and light biscuit malt backing in the taste. Pretty decent pils

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
330ml bottle. Attractive deep golden hue with a medium sized white frothy slowly diminishing head and good lacing. The aromas start out well with a variety of moderate hop notes; floral, grassy, herbal, fruity, with light biscuit malt then the aroma of cardboard takes over. Moderately sweet and bitter with an average duration, again started ok but its appeal had reduced by the end. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, long bitter finish. I sensed that this beer was a macro brewery "craft beer". Looking on their website confirms this; "The Boundary Road Brewery was bought in 2011 by Asahi." I feel that the pioneering spirit of the original brewer had been lost...just saying, thatís all.
