COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flying Fortress Ale symbolises everything great about beer: a big taste, a graceful aroma and two massive engines on each wing. The malts are Pale Ale combined with chocolate and caramel variants while the hops are NZ Motueka and Pacific Jade. Ardmore Airport, just 5km from the brewery, was originally built for these beautiful behemoths. Adjust your helmet and strap yourself in.

This is going to have to meet a higher standard as this is a style I’m quite keen on. Nutty brown amber colour. Aromas of nutty chocolate and amber malt, a bit of tangerine peel as well. Not a bad aroma at all. In terms of flavour there’s good bitterness and caramel. Lingering flavour and lengthy mouthfeel. A pleasant surprise actually.

very bitter, actually over bittered and grassy. No hop aroma or flavour - dissapointing.

330ml bottle. Yummy cocoa powder aroma at first, some medicine/bandaid, damp rotting leaves, leather, caramel, slightly smokey, interesting in a good way. Wonderful deep rich copper hue with a large slowly diminishing light beige creamy frothy head and good lacing. Mild-medium caramel sweetness, moderate-heavy bitterness, mild sourness. Soft carbonation, light-medium body, long dry peppery very astringent finish. Different and enjoyable.

Tap at Beervana 2011. Nose shows light citrus, grass and some leaves. Very ’forest-like.’ Citrus and grassy hoppage balanced out by slightly sweet caramel malts. Enjoyed this one
