COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flying Fortress Ale symbolises everything great about beer: a big taste, a graceful aroma and two massive engines on each wing. The malts are Pale Ale combined with chocolate and caramel variants while the hops are NZ Motueka and Pacific Jade. Ardmore Airport, just 5km from the brewery, was originally built for these beautiful behemoths. Adjust your helmet and strap yourself in.

330ml bottle. Yummy cocoa powder aroma at first, some medicine/bandaid, damp rotting leaves, leather, caramel, slightly smokey, interesting in a good way. Wonderful deep rich copper hue with a large slowly diminishing light beige creamy frothy head and good lacing. Mild-medium caramel sweetness, moderate-heavy bitterness, mild sourness. Soft carbonation, light-medium body, long dry peppery very astringent finish. Different and enjoyable.

Bronzey orange colour with no head. Big malt aroma. Biscuit malty flavour follows through to mild hop bitterness and slight roast malty taste.

Different from what I expected, from what it says in the label. I was full of chocolate stout when I tried this. The sweetness and astringency, the dark copper colour, the thin body, it all seemed out of place. Deserving of a future re-rate.

horribly astringent bitterness is really all i get from this. maybe i’m missing something, but i couldn’t get past a few gulps. horrid. bad bottle maybe? i suppose it’s a novelty that a mainstream beer is too bitter, heh.

My favorite Boundary Road brew. An excellent beer for the price and a good beer regardless. While I tend to stick with the higher priced real craft beers I’m always happy to have one of these if offered.

This was my (accidental) gateway to craft beer. I bought it at supermarket expecting the usual thin watery crap. Didn’t like it, ended up drinking my bro’s green bottle slosh. A week later the rest of the un-drunk 6-pack was still in the fridge and I really needed a beer. I held my nose and drank. BANG! Now I realised what was wrong with this beer: it actually has flavour! Once I started drinking the real stuff, I started looking down my nose at this beer, but as I drink this bottle right now I have a new respect for it. A nice, medium bitterness quite nicely balanced with the malt, nice malty aroma, ok mouthfeel, not too watery. Great value for money.

nuts, brown, clear, minimal head, light sweetness, medium bitterness, average carbonation, bitter, long finish, had a 330 ml bottle , but is also on tap in town @ one pub. I really enjoyed this , still do but realised its not quite in the same league as Epic Pale Ale . But it’s great to find it on tap , when mostly dire / average is what’s on offer . I enjoyed the mouth feel , long finish & taste. Not bad when $13 for 1/2 doz. ,

Pours copper. Thin white head with minimal lacing. Aroma is malty with citrus hops poking through. Taste is nutty malt well balanced by citrus hops with a clean, bitter finish. Light carbonation and thin body. More of a light amber then pale ale but very refreshing and pretty good. Needs more hops!

Bottled. A brown beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, citrusy hops, leading to a bitter finish.
