Bottle @ home.

An interesting beer, has a cola sort of look, with a slight funky aroma, has a sour cherry taste. Nice.

At Belgian Beer Cafe, Brisbane; 330ml bottle. Poured a dark amber-brown with a red ruby tint. Poured with about 5mm of light beige head that diminished quickly then laced poorly. No visible carbonation. Aroma like berry flavoured soft drink/cordial plus a hint of vinegar and a trace of malt - overall a very sweet nose. Taste similar to aroma with initally berry flavoured soft drink followed by a vinegar under-tone and quickly by an after-taste of sweet fruit. Light body. A smooth velvet-like mouthfeel. Smooth, sweet, quite light easy to drink beer. Overall a sweet beer but different and drinkable.

This is an amazing experience of a dark brown beer, in briefly: at the beginning a clear citric/fruity taste that is replaced by a soft sourness sensation at the end.

33cL bottle poured into a small Duvel glass. Bottled on 3/10/10, 3 years old. Did not intended on an old bottles, this is what is at the store and it only got here within the past year. I never bought it because I thought this was the regular Bourgogne des Flandres but apparently this is different.
Pours with a small head and a dark dark ruby red color, almost brown. Aroma has a strong lactic acid sourness (tangy sour cherry), very musky as well. Then comes a pretty strong and sweet barrel character (vanilla, light caramel). There may be a little faint cardboard sneaking in... maybe not. Aroma bottom line: tangy-lactic-musky barrel sweetness. Flavor is lighter than the aroma suggests. Partially do to a nice effervescent carbonation and a medium-light body. The flavors coalesce nicely on the palate. A reduced oak sweetness that is followed by a brighter, crisper lactic sourness. All of that evaporates off the palate nicely. The nose is a bit much but the flavor follows up nicely. I like this style, particular the more traditional slightly sweet, just lactic and light. I can understand why this might not be what others enjoy.
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 jookos (826) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 1, 2013
Bottle. Dark brown, murky. Nose is dry brown malty, a bit of vinous tones, a bit raisin-rhummy, raw chocolate. Some cinnamon, darker spices. Body is medium, refreshing actually. Dark dry malty flavours. Dry, cleansing. Not a sweet malty bruin.

33cl - Sweetened Flemish red/brown ale with a great sweet-sour balance for cooking, less for quenching your thirst. Ice-tead and sweet Rodenbach, some wood and inoffensive funk/dust and dark balsamico - saved me a run to the shop to finish my mushroom sauce and has a unique medium complexity for the candy-sugared funk infusion it is.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Jado (277) - Camp Hill, AUSTRALIA - APR 13, 2013
From 330 ml bottle, pours a deep brown with a flimsy beige head and some golden highlights. Aromas of cherry, vinegar and stewed apple on the nose. The taste starts off with some tart lactic sourness before the fuller fruit flavours kick in. There’s plenty of depth with currants, apple, cherry, fresh plum and a bit of lemon zest evident. Finish is relatively clean, although there is a lemony, spicy aftertaste. Enjoyed this a lot.

Has a reddish tinge to the brown colour, holds a head well. Hints of the oak amongst the caramel malty aromas.
Slightly sour/tart taste, which somehow just doesn’t meld together well with the malt flavours. Quite a thin mouthfeel.
