Only slightly sour, but a very pretty ruby color and interesting, balanced fruity and malt taste. Modest head.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 otakuden (1558) - Vero Beach, USA - JUN 16, 2011
Appearance: rubies, plums, and polished garnets. Lovely head of khaki cream which fades patchy and bubbly. Swirls like mousse.
Nose: plums, grapes, and a lovely blend of rhubarb and strawberry. Black cherries. Hint of earth in the back - cherry pits, plum skins, pomace. Gentle tannins; not so much sour as grapey and plummy with sweetness, bitterness, and earthy nuttiness from stones. Spice under the skins - cinnamon and nutmeg.
Palate: clean, playful, and frothy. Expectedly mild but good. Procession of flavors: grape, plum, black cherry with strawberry and rhubarb in the middle. Clean finish. Plum juice lingers on the back of the tongue. Tinge of tannic skins and pomace. Lovely.
Final Thoughts: while Bourgogne des Flandres won’t set the cheeks a-pucker, she was a gentle distinguished Flemish that the more I drank, the more I enjoyed.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 77ships (976) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - APR 9, 2011
draft: sweet with some artificial sweetness & cherries + Chinese plum candy, minor funk, touch of wood (not oak but more like furniture), it misses the touch of tart that the “brune” version has, lack of carbonation, this is just about as much a sour ale as the Timmermans lambic’s are lambic’s
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 badnewsbeers (2297) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAR 30, 2011
Dark pour. Translucent ruby black. Minimal head. Aroma of light sourness, with hints of lemon peel and funk. Flavor is mostly sweet and artficial. Tastes like a candied sucker that was turned to a fruit beer that just went thru fermentation. Too sweet. Interesting at best, but doesn’t work well. Faygo beverages could market this as more ghetto detroit soda.

[3/5/11] Bottle at Kulminator in Antwerp. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, some fruitiness and a light woody hint. Sweet flavor with a tiny bit of sourness, malt, sugar and cherry hints. Medium-bodied. Drinkable but way to clean and sweet.

750 ml corked and caged bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of carmel, toffee, basalmic vinegar, light oak and light fruittiness. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of basalmic vinegar, toffee, light carmel and ligfht prune with a smooth dry finish. Easy dfrinking but not worth the price.
