3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 beastiefan2k (1920) - Lawrence (formely NYC), USA - MAY 26, 2008
Pours a dark red cola color with a small but strong khaki head. Aroma is sweet, musky cherry which is slightly syrupy and artificial. Taste us much weaker on the cherry with light fruity sweetness. Finishes a bit mineral which takes away from the traditional slightly sour Flanders aspect. Its still easy drinking and generally light, a beginners beer for this style. 25cL bottle from Beer Mania, BB 30/05/09, hotel room plastic cup on 5/16/09.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Beerenberger (187) - Fischer, Texas, USA - MAY 23, 2012
Pours from a 11.2 oz. bottle a dark opaque ruby brown with a tan head that is less than robust. No lacing noted. The nose is sour cherries and dark fruit. The taste is mild; a nice balance between sweet and sour. This is not an over the top "sour" beer. Cherries carry through the finish and the mouthfeel is light-to-medium-light. Very enjoyable. Would drink again.

Reddish-brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of cherries, caramel, Belgian yeast, and a little wood. Taste is sweet and fruity and very slightly sour. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated.

This 33cl bottle has been hanging around my shelves for some time and I thought it time to release it. I popped it into the fridge and here we are. So on a sunny evening in early June 2010 I poured the bottle into a ’forbidden fruit’ badged chalice.
The beer poured a deep dark ruby red colour, an off-white almost tan coloured head sat on top for about 10 seconds before becoming a collar and wispy covering.
The smell was of semi-sour/semi-sweet old cherries without the pips and hints of something to come.
I am not a big fan of the Belgian sourpuss beers (check out some of my reviews, I’ve had plenty), so I was pleasantly pleased to find this wasn’t one of those vinegarous brews. This hoovers just above sour and could almost be called sweet by some, I’ll go for ’bordering on toothsome’.
The sweetness does appear to get sweeter as the beer warmed, which isn’t good, but I enjoyed the beer from start to finish. Not your regular Flanders Red, but one of the best in my eyes.

Bottle. Appearance: Opaque muddy brown pour with white, nice lacing. Aroma is cheap toffee, red wine, berries and yeast. Quite weird and dispapointing. Taste meets the expectations. Sweet, tart and refreshing. Some dark cherries but the woody, cheap ale aftertaste is annoying. It reminds me how good is Duchesse de Bourgogne.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 AndresTM (185) - Texas, USA - MAR 20, 2012
Light tartness accompanies mostly sweet and mellow notes of burnt sugar, dried, dark fruits, and some esters. The palate is a bit thin and the taste is more sweet than sour, but pretty enjoyable, in my opinion. Enjoyable and drinkable.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 aplus01 (33) - North Carolina, USA - FEB 27, 2012
A - moderately bready with a touch of sour fruit.
A - dark brownish red in color. No appreciable head
T - very mild tartness. not nearly as sour/tart as I anticipated.
P - for a brown this beer had less body than I expected. finished pretty cleanly for a sour ale
O - not a bad beer just not as tart as I prefer. If you’re not looking for super tart beer this would fit the bill nicely.

Tap at Max’s. Pours clear deep ruby/garnet with a small, fizzy white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is light cookie malt, tart cherry, and barnyard / funky yeast. Flavor is thin and sugary malt and cherries with a sweet finish. Light body, warmth and carbonation.
