Cask conditioned @ Guide Dog Soton. Brown. Nutty malty bitter with fruity toffee undertones and mild leafy hop bitterness. Reasonably full but not oversweet beer which is pretty drinkable. Contribution of chestnuts seems minimal. Pretty good.

Very mellow, slightly simple. A bit sweet, but not sugary. Doesn’t taste its strength, feels like a low 4.x% bitter. A bit forgettable, but not flawed.

Cask at Black Boy Winchester. Lovely dark brown colour with good cream coloured head. Nose is malt with ripe fruit. Taste malt with a fruity more citrus flavour, dark marmalade?, no roast chestnut flavour for me. Finish is gentle with slight astringancy, fading sweetness with bitterness.

Cask, handpump at The Cask & Kitchen, Pimlico, London, 29.12.10 Pours brown with a touch of filmy off-white head. This is a little shallow and empty at first in the mouth but after a while the flavours start to flood through, it’s definatly nutty, sweet and bitter but with some old fashioned qualities that are a little hard to describe. Nice beer but up against an even better one in the Salopian Requiem. A6 A3 T7 P3 Ov14 3.3

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
50 cl bottle bought in Hartney Wintney. Well I guess you have to call the colour chestnut! - there’s a thin off-white head and some soft carbonation; the aroma is earthy with perhaps a trace of chestnut; it’s soft and smooth in the mouth with some dry malts and demarara sugar, and again a hint of nuts. This is a really smooth and drinkable brew.

(Bottle, 7 Aug 2010. Thanks to SaintMatty) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, nutty nose with notes of chestnut and dark fruit. Malty, nutty taste with chestnut, dark fruit and caramel. More than medium body, rather sweet, with a mild bitterness. The chestnut character gets a bit overwhelming after a while but it’s a tasty and nice beer.

Bottle from Wine Rack, Romsey. Dark beer. Certainly chestnut brown with a medium brown head. Aroma of roasted malts. Light carbonation gives pleasant mouth feel when first poured. Well roasted flavour more coffee / cocoa than chestnut with hints of treacle and a slight astringency. Not quite a stout nor a bitter: interesting.

Cask - White Cliffs Festival 2010, Dover. Dark and clear chestnut brown with no real head. Quite a spicey aroma with some toastiness and a definite nutty component. More sweet spice on the tongue, the chestnut becoming more obvious with a light acidity. Smooth & soft on the palate with low carbonation and a decent bitterness.
