A smooth, creamy beer with hints of lemon and subtle blackcurrant and liquorice undertones. A sweet start and finish.

Dark brown / black with small tan head. Faint scent of blackcurrant and citrus. Flavor is bitter and sweet with hints of liquorice and has a short lived, bright, sweet finish. Crisp and enjoyable in mouth with high degree of quaffability.

2015-03-26. Dark brown body modest beige head. Aroma of dark English malt with nutty toasty notes. 7+ flavour is similar, dark malt core has toasty accents with a distinctively British malt character. Mild bitterness throughout, very lightly metallic in the finish. Lingering nutty toasty malt in the finish. Average plus body with modest carbonation. 3+ solid. Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto.

500ml bottle from the LCBO. Dark deep brown body with a tan head and nice lacing. Earthy, wood, black licorice, plums, dark fruit and its pretty roasty. Some cocoa. Minimal hop presense, light-bodied, sessionable.

Pours into the glass like a cross between a porter & soda fountain cola. Foam starts with a nice thick cap that collapses quicker than the English team in the World Cup. The label is right: there’s a significant black currant presence in the flavour, almost like you swirled a tea spoon of unsweetened preserves in the glass. Finish is a bit messy. Carbonation is a little on the biting side. Pretty damn enjoyable. Thanks Mrs Tiki for picking this up for me from the liqour store. It’ll help take the edge off.

Left on counter for 25 minutes before opening. Pours dark brown with light tan head. Head is a moderate thickness and unpleasantly bitter. Body is slick and smooth with a subtle carbonation. The beer has a liquorice-y floor polish scent to it. The beer tasted bitter and a little bit sour

small frothy offwhite head. fair lacing. mostly diminishing. flat thick ruby-highlighted brown body. aroma: heavy roasted malt, dark bread, dark chocolate. if: light sweet. ff: light sweet bitter; average duration. palate: medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation, metallic finish.

500 ml bottle from the LCBO. Appearance: Pours a jet black with a couple of fingers of tan head. Average retention with a bit of lacing. Aroma: Chocolate, caramel, dark malt, moca. Flavours: Dark roasted malt, coffee, figs, hint of vanilla. Mouthfeel: Thin with average carbonation. Overall: A good ale with lots of roasted malt coming through on the aroma and flavour. I haven’t had a lot of olde ales but will say this seems like more of a brown ale or almost a porter. Still, it was quite enjoyable.

@Hoppy Loft 9/12/2014.
