A smooth, creamy beer with hints of lemon and subtle blackcurrant and liquorice undertones. A sweet start and finish.

Pours clear deep brown/red with a short lived off-white head. Nose of molasses, traces of fruit bread, and booze. Body is a tad thin and flat. Notes of strawberry, anice, and citrus peel, sitting on top of heavy roasted crystal/biscuity malts. Nutty. Bitter. It’s peculiar. Mineral and meat broth finish. I wouldn’t have pegged this as an old ale, more like a thin porter.

Bottle - Toasted malts and some toffee. Jet black/brown with a small beige head. Tons of toasted malts and burnt toasted bread.

Pour is barely black with a small tan cap. Nose is berry jam, burnt toast, liquorice. Toastiness comes out even more in the flavour. Toasted grain bitterness goes nicely with the fruitiness. A little thin but still pretty tasty - like Emma Stone in Birdman. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown / black with small tan head. Faint scent of blackcurrant and citrus. Flavor is bitter and sweet with hints of liquorice and has a short lived, bright, sweet finish. Crisp and enjoyable in mouth with high degree of quaffability.

2015-03-26. Dark brown body modest beige head. Aroma of dark English malt with nutty toasty notes. 7+ flavour is similar, dark malt core has toasty accents with a distinctively British malt character. Mild bitterness throughout, very lightly metallic in the finish. Lingering nutty toasty malt in the finish. Average plus body with modest carbonation. 3+ solid. Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto.

500ml bottle from the LCBO. Dark deep brown body with a tan head and nice lacing. Earthy, wood, black licorice, plums, dark fruit and its pretty roasty. Some cocoa. Minimal hop presense, light-bodied, sessionable.

Pours into the glass like a cross between a porter & soda fountain cola. Foam starts with a nice thick cap that collapses quicker than the English team in the World Cup. The label is right: there’s a significant black currant presence in the flavour, almost like you swirled a tea spoon of unsweetened preserves in the glass. Finish is a bit messy. Carbonation is a little on the biting side. Pretty damn enjoyable. Thanks Mrs Tiki for picking this up for me from the liqour store. It’ll help take the edge off.
