Bouteille 500 ml. 5%. Couleur brune foncée, reflets rougeâtres, mousse mince beige. Arôme de malt, un peu de tourbe, caramel. En bouche, malt, houblon, un peu de torréfaction, toffee. Finale avec une petite amertume, sucrée. Très bonne.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A clear dark reddish brown ale with a thick frothy brown head, very resilient. In mouth, nice dark fruits with caramel, butterscotch, a bit lighter than expected. In mouth, a smooth roasted caramel with light herbal licorice, molasses, nice.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Roasty, light chocolate aroma. Dark brown, with a quickly dissipating head. Light bodied, roasty/chocolate/slight hop bitter upfront with a long chocolate aftertaste. Soft carbonation. Suprisingly refreshing for a beer this roasty.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma: Blackcurrant, molasses and toasted bread mainly. Long lasting and complex nose.
Appearance: Brown and clear. Average creamy head, moderately lasting, sticking good but no lacing.
Taste: A woody attack with roasted notes. Texture is watery. We can feel wood and roasted malt accents; almost smoke. Finish is with slight notes of lemon. Flavors are mostly malty and finish slightly hoppy. and dry. Not a great beer but pleasant to drink.

Part of a trade. Some nice things about this brew. I like the roasted slightly charred flavor. While I did notice the lemon, it wasn’t overbearing, and the liqourice added to the finishing touch. Nice.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, LCBO. Dark ruby red with a creamy tan head. Really nutty sweet aroma, excellent. Taste is sweet and nutty as well and the body is very creamy. Some dark fruit up front as well. I’m not sure about "old ale" but this one is an excellent brown ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Smells nutty with a little swampy malt. Pours mahogany with good creamy head and good lacing. Aroma pretty much of nut and a little roast malt. Taste is a little bitter with slick palate and average carbonation. Not bad. Bottle.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Appearance: Almost opaque and black until held up to light when I get some lovely ruby highlights. Thick frothy light brown head, which does not endure but leaves nice lacing as it fades.
Aroma: Coffee, licorice, smoke. Gorgeous (I find Box Steam beers always have great noses). No discernible hop aroma.
Flavour: Freshly ground coffee with a nice bitterness on the end.
Mouthfeel: Moderately low carbonation, well balanced in terms of malt and hop bitterness, warming and creamy.
Overall: Wonderful ale, somewhere between a dark lager and a mocha porter. Box Steam continue to impress.
