A smooth, creamy beer with hints of lemon and subtle blackcurrant and liquorice undertones. A sweet start and finish.

ALLOVATE (2549) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAY 1, 2014
Subtle pffft as the cap comes off with a low hint of roggenbrot coming forth. Malty, sweet and savoury with inklings of toffee brittle, kelp, umami, almond meal, braised beef, Worcestershire sauce, burnt toast and that roasted bready twitch. Loving the complexity of the aroma. Settles a deepest ruby hued brown and sparkling. Lifts up a foam that depletes to a wafer of beige that weaves a thin lace. Big twist. So much malt on the palate. Roasted, heavy handed and lasting. Woody, nutty and meaty like the nose. Bitter sweet and very peppery on the swallow. Long smoky finish balanced perfectly by hints of cola, praline and burnt sugar. Body is medium with a spritzy, effortless carbonation and it just lasts. Very faint hint of beurre noire adds texture and flavour to it. a touch of dusty malt and cheap sherry. The more I drink, the more I find. This is a lovely, honest brew. Moorish, bitter/sweet and so, so tasty. A lovely beer!! (50cL, BBE 08/14, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

Brown bodied and small head. Dusty biscuit malts, roasted, dry, small yeast, light woody hops. Easily drinkable yet not smooth, rather cereal like. It’s nice. (50cl bottle from Beer City)

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein dunkelbraunes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch fruchtig, leicht schokoladig, holzig, bitter. Geschmack röstmalzig, leicht getreidig, fruchtig.

Bottle, black with reddish hints and a thin head, nose is roast coffee, a little red fruit, a little burnt caramel, palate is roasty, ashy and dry-bitter, with treacle toffee notes, a little blackcurrant, and a faint metallic edge in the dry and burnt-bitter finish.

4/XI/13 - 50cl bottle @ home - BB: VIII/2014 (2013-1041) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!

Clear deep purple beer, irregular beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of mocha and coffee, grains, hay, bit nutty, caramel, toast. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: bit sour, dark chocolate, coffee, pretty hoppy, grains. Aftertaste: citrus, quite hoppy bitterness, grains, some toast.

Pours with almost no head, very dark brown to black. Some fruity, chocolate hints but not a powerful aroma, somewhat bitter / yeasty on the nose. Good texture, slightly creamy as advertised with burnt roasty notes in the taste. A little cereal-y which isn’t a preferred flavour of mine but generally well balanced. Probably quite in line with it’s style, apparently, not really one for me.

Bottled 19/11/13. A dark dark ruby coloured beer with barely any head - just a grey patch. An oaky edge to the nose. Dry, smoky and a bit fruity in the mouth. Tasty and moreish. Very likeable. Good stuff,.

Hints of chocolate and vanilla while not dense or overbearing. Quite smooth actually.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear deep ruby, verging on black, with a smallish off-white head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. Dark malt and liquorice undertones mix with light lemon hops and candied fruit notes to create the aroma. Preserved lemon and mandarin hops up front, followed by berry notes, lead into a body of dark, roasty malt and mild liquorice. Spiced fruits are present in the finish. This is a classic dark and smooth old ale. Nice stuff.

500ml Bottle poured into a UK pint sleeve on 17 Aug 2013 during a ’random tasting evening’ with myself (the wife is out and I’ve no friends). First impressions count: lovely dark body, almost black, deep ruby hue when held up to a strong light source. On top a creamy, full head that stayed the distance. Mild malty molasses in the nose, some wood and nut notes as the beer warmed in the glass. Nice balance to the flavours: semi-burnt malts at first, then a sweeter malt feel, followed by a drying hop bitterness before the malts reappear to give a dark chocolate finish. Not as complex as I’ve said, but an interesting and flavoursome beer. Good depth of body, almost creamy and rich, the hops just about preventing the beer becoming smooth: which suited my taste buds.
