3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours an opaque black, with a thin mahogany head. Aroma is of intense malts like roasted coffee, dark Chocolate, espresso, and vanilla. Tasting notes include more vanilla, with a rich coffee mouth feel, and intense chocolate and mocha notes. This is an excellent Porter! I had it with my homemade pumpkin pie, and it was delicious!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle - 500ml. Pours a very dark brown body with average carbonation and a thin beige foamy head. Wonderful malty aroma with hoppy, chocolate, and some subtle woody hints. Its robust, complex malty/hoppy taste carries chocolate, oaky, coffeeish, and plummy notes. Ends with a good bitter/woody finish. Good stuff.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle. Pours a very dark ruby brown with a tan, one finger bubbly head that dissipates quickly to a thin film and ring. Some nice legs and very mild lacing.
Aroma is noticeable with big notes of vanilla accompanied by hints of roasted malts and chocolate.
Taste is slightly bitter with a medium, drawn out, slightly roasty, vanilla aftertaste.
Low-medium body and carbonation. Slightly thin in the mouth but with enough carbonation and flavour to keep it tasty. Very drinkable and not overly thick or oily. Almost refreshing.
Overall pretty good. I think I would have liked it a touch more of a roasted/chocolate flavour but still well-balanced and very drinkable. The vanilla is noticeable but not overpowering. Would get again if I was looking for a vanilla porter.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours from bottle dark & stormy with a razor thin tan cap that fades into a memory. What makes this porter stand out is the duet between vanilla & chocolate malt. A nice balance. This porter is smoother than a tenor sax & this may bother some who want the chunky power chords of a more aggressive porter. A nice sipper for a Toronto Sunday afternoon reading Pynchon’s new novel.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark body like cola with a medium tan head. Heavy malt and sweet vanilla aroma. Flavor is tart, slightly bitter with hickory smoke and a light vanilla finish kind of like cream soda. Almost flat mouthfeel.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a small light beige head, which neither lasts all that well nor leaves very much lacing. Mild black coffee bitterness and vanilla notes mix with roasted malt nuttiness to create the aroma. Fairly mild citrus hops up front give way to black coffee and roasty malt in the mid-palate. Latte and very mild vanilla notes make up the finish. This is not a bad beer, but it’s all a little too restrained. It really needs something to give it a little bit more of a kick.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
A lighter style of porter. The aroma certainly has the vanilla component but it is that kind of ’fake’ vanilla which I don’t enjoy much. The palate was lighter than expected and again the vanilla character was not enjoyable.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Independent Spirit, Bath. Dark black colour, thin off white head. Soft mouthfeel, retrained roasty bitterness, come chocolate, quite a whack of vanilla. Smooth drinking stuff, maybe a bit too much vanilla to have more than one though.
