Formerly known as Vanilla Porter. Renamed in 2009.
Dark brown in colour, with a subtle vanilla aroma. The vanilla sweetness contrasts nicely with the slight bitterness from the roasted barley and chocolate malts

500 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in an English pint glass. Pours deep ruby chestnut with a tall tan head. The head fades slowly to a thin cover and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has a huge vanilla note, along with big notes of chocolate and heavily roasted malts. The flavour is slightly sweet up front and becomes slightly drier as it develops. There is plenty of dark chocolate and vanilla, along with a touch of espresso, earth and nuts. The finish is long and earthy-hoppy. On the palate, it is light-medium in body with a smooth, watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice English style porter. The vanilla and dark chocolate notes provide nice contrast and add to the complexity of this porter. Lighter in body and drier than many North American varieties, this porter is actually somewhat refreshing and would make a great session ale. 2011-09-29

Incredible beer. One of the most impressive porters I’ve had. The vanilla flavours interact very well with the chocolate and coffee notes typical of porters. Very impressed.

I tried this beer on September 14, 2011 after purchasing from one of my lkocal LCBO outlets. The beer poured a translucent dark brown with a generous tan head that lasted a while. The aroma was roasted nuts, mocha, and vanilla. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was nuts, vanilla, roast, and a hint of coffee.

500ml bottle. Deep clear reddish-brown with a huge fluffy/foamy lasting tan head. Lovely floral / vanilla / nutty roast aroma - light, but massively appealing. Taste is a little less awesome; thin, sweeter, but a nice developing earthiness, and semi-sweet chocolate. Light, mildly carbonated, a dry lightly herbal finish - so easy to drink

It’s good. Pours a dark mahogany brown with a short lived beige cap. The aroma is sweet vanilla bean goodness, and some more vanilla. .. . and vanilla, maybe some coffee too....It’s pretty one dimensional so far, but I still like it. The flavour is pretty reflective, a touch of roasty notes here, and splash of coffee there, but mostly vanilla. Again, pretty one dimensional it seems to me, but I still like it. Roasty coffee finish.

500 ml bottle - pours dark brown and when held to the light it reveals its lovely ruby highlights. Thick, tight beige head coats the glass. Aroma predominantly vanilla backed by dark fruits and milk chocolate. A bit more roast in the flavour than in the nose, but the other elements are there. This’d be lovely on cask. Top shelf.

500ml bottle from the lcbo. very nice dark malt and vanilla nose. flavour is a touch to thin but is similar to the nose. some roasted malt astringency reduces drinkability. good.

500 ml bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep brown-black with a disappearing tan-grey head. Aroma: Lovely chocolate, vanilla and coconut notes, light lactic porter points, a bit of black coffee, light grape-like fruitiness, a touch ashen, nice. Palate: Medium body, fairly full, silky effervescence, a little powdery. Flav.: A bit less inviting than the nose, less of the vanilla and coconut, a bit more harsh dark-roasted character, same amount of grape and ash, a bit more tang; dry with limited bitterness and a somewhat watery finish with some dark-roasted malts and light fruity/vanilla notes.

A bit of a letdown in the mouth. Still not bad.

Very nice soft sweet aroma of roasted malts, brown sugar and vanilla. Incredibly soft mouthfeel, light carb. Satisfying sweet roasted malt finish with a lovely vanilla sweetness. Nice stuff.

500 mL bottle. Dark, opaque, cola brown with just a ring of head. Appealing chocolatey aroma also has some lightly burnt firewood coffee grounds. Almost like a stout. The flavour adds some vanilla. This is almost a stout. Good body for the ABV. Nice beer.
