3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 22, 2010 Cask conditioned handpump Eastgate Northampton ( JHB bottom? crawl). A black beer with a whitish gloopy head and lacing. A roasty aroma with some vanilla and also a floral hint. Great roasty choc and coffee in the mouth with good and never intrusive vanilla. A really tasty beer which a couple of my colleagues rushed to the pub for the following day. Score 3.7
Subsequent rating scored 3.9. Average becomes 3.8

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep brown pour with a tight light brown head. The aroma is really rich and chocolatey with a lot of rich vanilla as well. There is a touch of light earthiness along with a little bit of light floral character through the middle of the nose. Lightly sweet with a little bit of roast and some cocoa. Softly sweet with a touch of light roast bitterness. It’s pretty nice - particularly considering the ABV.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 5, 2011 500 ml bottle from LCBO. Appreciate small breweries and lower a.b.v. Pours a large retained beige head on black body. Mild roast, tastes roastier than the smell. About average mouthfeel, although a bit thin for the style. Pretty simple really, only a little hops, much more malts. Decent drinkability.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
My Bottom Line :
Blatant vanilla leads this thin Porter’s roasted malts into light bitterness, while adding spicy fruitiness throughout .
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam covers the darkest brown.
-The aroma predicts much more sweetness than is contained in the body.
-Nutty caramel appears under the vanilla.
-Vanilla supplants malt flavors and make them appear shallow.
-Wooden hops join roasted malts in the balancing bitter finish.
-This is quite dry and drinkable, yet it fails to keep me interested for the duration of the pint.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2012-07-27. Very dark brown body, modest tan head. 3+ Dry malty flavour, toasty notes, dry cocoa, and a dry minerally finish. 6+ Aroma has a strong dry cocoa and Ovaltine like character. 7+ Smooth average plus to medium palate. Solid, a bit to dry I find the roasty cocoa like character dominated. I got very little vanilla character out of it. Perhaps I waited too long on the bottle? A beer named after a project of IK Brunel, enjoyed shortly after a tribute to Brunel during the Opening Ceremonies for the London 2012 Olympics. A happy coincidence. Bottle cellared a few months from the LCBO, Toronto.

A Mes rate: cask at the Welly.
Dark chestnut with no head. Cocolate and vanilla all round. In fact the chocolate is pretty much pure cocoa. Quite grainy. Lots of nutty character. A little too much on the vanilla for me be decent enough overall.

Half pint, cask. Drinking with Craig at Cloisters Bar in Edinburgh. Black with a dark-brown tint. Bubbly ring to the rim of the glass. Aroma of roasted malts with a touch of anise. Burnt earthy malts joined by vanilla sweetness in flavour. Rounded ending by bittering malts. Likable, 29.11.2010.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle 500 ml
Aroma sweet caramel. Light hop notes on top. Hint of vanilla. Sugars, tad too sweet.
Appearance neat shade of dark brown. Mid lighter creamy top. Sparse lace , rings on glass walls.
Flavor and Palate : medium light bodied. Crisp light hop character sitting on caramel with vanilla powder. Soft carbonation. To sugary for my taste. Late dark roast noticed.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
50cl bottle, BB 08/2013.
Brune claire, col fin beige.
