Dark brown in colour, with a subtle vanilla aroma. The vanilla sweetness contrasts nicely with the slight bitterness from the roasted barley and chocolate malts

Half pint, cask. Drinking with Craig at Cloisters Bar in Edinburgh. Black with a dark-brown tint. Bubbly ring to the rim of the glass. Aroma of roasted malts with a touch of anise. Burnt earthy malts joined by vanilla sweetness in flavour. Rounded ending by bittering malts. Likable, 29.11.2010.

500ml bottle from Asda. Pours deep dark brown with fluffy pale stone coloured head, leaves some lacing. Aroma rich with coffee, molasses, metallic notes and maple. Slightly thin and watery mouthfeel. Somewhat fizzy.

500ml bottle. Wow. Pours a slightly dark brown appearance with a pretty nice size brownish foamy head. Good lacing. Aromas of vanilla, caramel, and roasted barley malts. Coffee mocha and roasted malts for flavours with hints of vanilla and caramel, like aromas. Somewhat bitter mouthfeel, but not overpowering. Caught off guard by 4.5% abv, seems like a stronger beer, or maybe should be. Good stuff.

Bottle. Medium aroma of vanilla and chocolate. Brown color, clear. Short lasting white head. Watery taste, with medium bitterness - no significant signs of dark malts. Light body, medium carbonation. Decent, but that’s all I can say

Bottle, from Lidl. Deep red brown, thin but sustained off white head and low condition. Pleasantly woody nose with hints of vanilla and bitter sweet chocolate, quite metallic in the mouth with a little sweet vanilla and chocolate breaking through, with a roasted barley bitterness developing as it warms, along with a slight liquorice note, finish is quite dry and bitter with some lingering roast barley notes
