Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.
Formerly known as Vanilla Porter. Renamed in 2009.
Dark brown in colour, with a subtle vanilla aroma. The vanilla sweetness contrasts nicely with the slight bitterness from the roasted barley and chocolate malts

My Bottom Line :
Blatant vanilla leads this thin Porter’s roasted malts into light bitterness, while adding spicy fruitiness throughout .

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam covers the darkest brown.
-The aroma predicts much more sweetness than is contained in the body.
-Nutty caramel appears under the vanilla.
-Vanilla supplants malt flavors and make them appear shallow.
-Wooden hops join roasted malts in the balancing bitter finish.
-This is quite dry and drinkable, yet it fails to keep me interested for the duration of the pint.

Bottle.

500mL bottle from LCBO poured into tulip pint glass. Pours a very dark brown stout color with fluffy dark tan head with. Aroma consists of roasted malts, mild hops, sweet caramel, bakers chocolate and a definitive vanilla scent, very reminiscent of a strong espresso or cappuccino. The taste is excellent with a light bitter taste thanks to the roasted malts and hops accented by a chocolate and vanilla finish. This porter is light bodied although has a smooth texture which gives it some significance. Carbonation is mild and lacing retention is excellent. Overall this is a very enjoyable porter and is worthy of it’s many awards since it’s inception.

Bottle. Vanilla and chocolate flavours exploded out of the bottle. Small head and a robust body considering its relatively low strength. Very well bottled and an all round excellent beer.

At the bow. A black beer with lots of vanilla aroma and flavours. Chocolate and coffee are also present. Mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel.

bottle. Poured extremely dark brown with a creamy tan head. Roasty malt aroma with a sweet vanilla tone. Medium mouthfeel, average carbonation. Malty flavour, dark fruit, vanilla. Finishes medium dry, a bit astringent.

Frothmeister (247) - Ontario, CANADA - DEC 27, 2011
500ml bottle. Pours dark, dark brown with a frothy tan head. Smells as advertised, vanilla with heavy cocoa, malt notes, alcohol, and faint molasses. The taste starts and finishes bitter, with cereal notes, followed by vanilla, with chocolate, and cocoa taking over. Good, but thin bodied, and slightly light on dark malt flavours for a porter. Worth trying though.

Bottle. Dark brown with a purple-tan, bubbly head. Smoke in the aroma. Some sweet bakers chocolate, toffee, mild grape, coffee, vanilla. Thin to medium body. Tobacco in the flavour with coffee beans, more smoke, chocolate, light hints of fruit, especially grape. Theres tobacco in the long, dry finish.

500ml bottle, dark brown color, with a bubbly beige head, leaving laces, nice brown chocolate, coocoa powder, fudgy brownie, vanilla nose, with some mild chocolate cake, chocolate waffel, chocolate milk accents and with some light roasted, chocolate malt, cappuccino note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet cocoa powder, reminiscent of nestlé quik, chocolate cake, light spicy vanilla bean, fudgy brownie, chocolate milk character with a velvety milkyish lactose café latté undertone, and with some light coffee essence, roasted, chocolate, toasted, black malt flavours, with a chocolate waffel, burnt bran muffin, burnt toast, cappuccino backbone, leading towards a chocolatey, cocoa, fudgy, delicate roasted malt bitterness finish.
