This beer is named after Louie, the original cat that inspired Boxing Cat as the company name. This velvety beer contains several roasted malts including a light dash of smoked malt. The addition of coffee adds a rich complexity to this beer with notes of chocolate, and coffee along with some subtle smokiness. The use of fragrant hops offsets the malt backbone of this beer as they contribute a balanced bitterness and hop bouquet. A truly complex stout with many layers of depth.

Tap at the brew pub. This was the most disappointing of the beers I had there. It has little flavor up front. After awhile some heavy roasted malt shows up and leaves a bitter aftertaste on the tongue. I generally like this style a lot, but this beer didn’t do it for me.

This is a great beer, strong, rich roasty with a great balance of sweetness and hops, smooth going down, a great sipping beer with a cigar!

Tonnes of roasted malt and coffee on the nose, along with some raisin. Taste is similar. Nice for a stout to have this much bitter hop to it.

Beertopia 2014 #3. Pitch black with tan head. Hoppy roasty aroma. Very nice hoppy bitterness to balance out the roasted bready flavor. Unexpectedly great stout from Boxing Cat

Pours black with a tan head. Smells of burnt coffee and sweet chocolate. Tastes of sweet chocolate, roasted malts, and some coffee bitterness. Very smooth to drink. This is the best beer I’ve had that’s been brewed in China.

Runny black with a foamy head that lasts long than that. Haha. Rich bitter barley aroma. Flavor is slightly sweet bitter roasty malt. Blanketing lace. Very smooth. No hint of the 8%. Wet cocoa powder finish.

Sample at one of the locations in Shanghai. Black with mocha head. Aroma, nice sweet chocolate, milky coffee, some nice fruity notes with raisins and such. Smells great! Taste, nice milky chocolate, coffee and slightly ashy sourness that I am kind of sensitive to in imperial stouts. Other than that great brew! Long time since I had an IS so this was most welcome :D

Draught @ CBC2013. Pours blackish brown with a frothy mocha head that slowly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is malty and tiny fruity with roasted mallets, espresso coffee, cocoa powder, dates, prunes, soil, hay, burnt cookies, caramel, charred wood and hints of peat. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, high quality dark chocolate, moist soil, charred wood, hay, burnt caramel and hints of peat and salty licorice candy. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny roasted astringent and medium to full bodied. Finish is bitter and malty with roasted malts, espresso coffee, high quality dark chocolate, burnt caramel, peat, salty licorice candy and hay. Solid smooth Imperial Stout.

Tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Pours dark brown with a beige foam head. Burnt wood in the nose, some burnt cocoa. Moderate sweetness, plenty of bitter chocolate, good roast. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Dark chocolate to finish, light earthy bitterness, more burnt barrel. Not bad, really. Some dry dark fruits in there, too.

CBC. Opaque dark brown beer, good tan head. Palate is dry and crisp. Roasty dark malt, touch of lactose. Rich. Finishes dry. Decent if a bit one dimensional and dry.
