4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Schroppfy (2351) - Łódż, Warsaw, Poland; Michigan, Ohio, USA - APR 20, 2002
Rerate: Tremendous. The most subtle combination of smokiness, slight citrus, nice dark malt with a tinge of hops. A truly great beer. Original: 11/24/01: I liked it a lot. Far better than Newcastle...although not radically different in taste. On the other hand, quite different than Bell’s Best Brown (which I love so much) in taste and mouthfeel...smoother, much lighter. Very nice beer.

Deep, hazy brown/red. Decent off white head and lace. Aroma is very subdued, citrus, malt, flowers and others. Medium bodied with alot of oaty flavor, perfect carbonation, has a nice earthy quality with notes of chocolate and nuts. Light hop ending. The balance is amazing. Very flavorful and drinkable. Good stuff. I havent had too many browns but this is damn good! Thanks Professor!
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 proc (342) - Dearborn, Michigan, USA - APR 3, 2002
This is an excellent brown ale. Pours out to, well, brown, in the glass, with a light brown head. Taste of malt is present, with a very slight sweetness. A highly drinkable beer from a small, northern Michigan brewer. Too bad this isn’t more widely distributed. Good beer.

Dark reddish brown. Citric aroma. Toasty, nice maltiness. Very balanced. Execellent example of an American Brown Ale, the best I’ve ever had. Thanks PsychProf!

I received this as a gift, expecting a Bell’s Wannabe. Boy was I surprised at how good and different is was! (Wish it was easier to find)
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 TAR (2346) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - DEC 23, 2001
Subtle smoke as previous user noted. Decent chocolate character which I look for in a good brown and hints of plums and oak. Not bad, just a hair on the light side.

Subtly hoppy with an interesting smoothness and nice roasty flavors. I live just down the road from the brewery and I love this beer.
