COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boynton’s Ale Naturally brewed, bottle conditioned independent brewery. Proudly Porepunkah.
This is very much a hop-driven beer based upon the American Pale Ale style. Though a striking burnt orange colour, its predominant characteristic is citric hop bitterness and aroma. This is obtained through triple hopping. Pride of Ringwood at start, Amarillo for the added citrus kick and Cascade for aroma. The combination of fermentation esters and volatile hop components combine to give a barrage of fruit flavours until the bitterness kicks in and leaves the palate cleansed. This medium to high level of bitterness gives the beer an assertive quality which is ideal for matching with food, especially Asian or chilli-inspired dishes.

Bottle. Not great. Aroma is floral, and also band-aid. Sweet flavour with light bitterness, and average length. Oily in the palate, and medium body. Yellow colour, with a frothy white head.

From bottle purchased at cellar door. Rather disappointing ale. Surprisingly bitter and hoppy with murky apperance and unbalanced set of flavours.

Bottled. Muddy nut brown, dishwater like head. Aroma of malt syrup. Sweet with raw, mellow mouthfeel. There’s notes of peaches wading through the malt syrup. Even the finish is dominated by that syrup, hiding a vague harsh bitterness. Tastes more like something made from a homebrew kit than a real microbrewed beer, I’m afraid.

Malt hop aroma with spiritus undertones. Murky brown colour with poor head and lacing. Strong malt flavour with an unnatural aftertaste. Fizzy palate.

19 Nov 05 - Nice malt and hop aroma. Light cloudy brown colour, plain head and Ok lacing. Harsh hop, slightly sweet but a bit strange, lacks malt. Metallic weird thinnish finish.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2006 Slightly cloudy light brown with a large but short lasting off-white head. Grainy and sour-apple aroma, with a touch of fruity hops. On tasting the aroma is a bit offensive. Sourness comes charging through in the flavour, making it seem like a cider considering the apple aroma. Interesting, and somewhat satisfying, but it’s a bit out there. Re-rate: Hasn’t improved, just seems more and more like homebrew. Bitterness does not match the rest of the beer

Pours amber with a very poor diminishing head, not a good start… The flavour is unbalanced a little bitter but with some weird maltiness and yeastiness, with something weird that I couldn’t put my finger on. It’s also a little sour, maybe an old bottle. Pretty disappointing, but better than your average VB.

Cloudy caramel in the glass - bot bad. Quite a fruity nose but lacks seriousness. some more fruity notes in the mouth but becomes overwhelmed but citrus, malty (?) notes that take the beer nowhere. Finishes thin.

Cloudy apricot colour, strong fruity aroma. So far so good. Some roasted malt in the flavour which turns really, really bad! Very harsh bitterness, thin texture and an unpleasant finish. NASTY.

Oh dear. This smells yeasty, tomatoey and a bit funky, but I thought it would still taste OK. Once this hit my lips it became rather offensive. Loads of crystal malt then some bitterness and lots of appley sourness right at the end. It really doesn’t work. The sourness is actually pretty clean, but it’s not nice. I had two sips and gave it to my housemate (who drank it all.) It pains me to rate Victorian beers this low but I’m afraid in this case it has to be done.
