1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 mullet (849) - Melbourne, - JUN 22, 2004
I really wanted to like this but unfortunately I could not. I stumbled upon this whilst searching for another beer in a bottle shop in which I had never previously set foot. Pours a hazy, nice orange colour with pretty ordinary head retention.
Aroma is YEASTY. Either they don’t bother with lagering, ferment with a lager yeast at about 20C or both. Not good at all.
There are definite good flavours in there somewhere, again tucked behind all the yeast. The malt was very fresh and juicy and the hops were nice and orange-rindy (Hallertau I’d say.) But again, it’s all about the yeast. And a mild astringency.
If they sort out their fermentation this could be a seriously good beer. As it is, it’s unpleasant.

quite boring pilsner, sulphur smell the most ’interesting’ things going on here....
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 bridge (659) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - DEC 30, 2005
Slightly cloudy yellow brown, with a decent fluffy head and some scattered lace. Spicy, citrus shebert hop aroma, with a touch of sweet malt round it off. Fairly nicely balanced bitter flavour which integrates well. Good carbonation level, with a light to medium strength body. Not bad, but I think I gave it a higher rating based on enjoying the bottle I had at Simone’s restaurant in Bright (if you’re ever there, you HAVE to go to this restaurant).
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 highlandlad (1325) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - DEC 22, 2005
A strikingly fruity Australian pilsener. It poured a turbid (thanks Mullet) orange with fat carbonation and a thin, fast-retreating head. The subdued aroma showed some orange rind and faint toffee. It’s very clean but uninspiring. Quite citric and mouth-watering at first sip. Lots of soft fruit, with some toffee-like malt and a fairly pronounced bitter finish. Rounded mouthfeel, inobtrusive carbonation. Reminds me a little of the Potters lager in the Hunter Valley. Bit crude and not very typical of the style but drinkable. (Courtesy of Bridge - thanks buddy)
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 bluevegie (2926) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 17, 2005
Ordinary head on a slightly murky orangey gold body. Boring taste, flat hops with no sort of crispness or bite and the yeast that is in there is not helping at all. I served this in a proper pilsner glass but that failed to help. Does bottle conditioning help pilseners? Not this one!
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 omhper (15956) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JUN 13, 2005
Bottled. Cloudy dark yello, average head. Non descript fruity aroma. Fairly sweet with bnotes of cherries and malt extract flavour. Medium body with clean, rounded moutfheel and average bitterness. Unrefined.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Stew41 (1457) - Woodend, AUSTRALIA - NOV 22, 2004
Dull cloudy orange, yet strangley vibrant. Nose is quite aromatic; faintly hoppy and fruity. More hoppiness in the mouth, a fraction hard but does deliver a refreshing cut of sharpness. Note much else going on, perhaps a little one dimensional. A fair bit better than previous tastes (which proved very disappointing).
1.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 mutant (854) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JUL 3, 2004
Golden but with a poor head. I didn’t get the extreme yeastiness that Mullet did. Mine was a bit more hoppy with a slight spicyness, but that might be yeast. My complaint is about the flavour. My bottle was quite bitter without any malt. Then it turned dramatically sour, big time. Maybe this brewery has quality control issues, I don’t know.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dredd (591) - Bentleigh, AUSTRALIA - APR 6, 2004
UPDATED: JUN 28, 2004 This is a nice pilsener, good balance between bitterness and malt. Some apple in the aroma and cloudiness due to the bottle conditioning. The main let down is the lack of traditional pilsener head.
