(Cask at Euston Tap, Euston, London, 21 July 2011) Pale golden colour with foamy, white head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of tropical fruit, citrus, biscuity malt and honey. Fruity, malty taste with grass, tropical fruit, citrus and a generous, but balanced, bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Nice one.

Bottled. Golden colour with a big foamy white head. Aroma is fruits, wood, some mild toast as well as quite floral hops as well. Flavour is sweet malts, quite mouthdrying bitter as well as some sweet malts as well. Very pelasant brew.

Leighton (10483) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 22, 2011
UPDATED: JAN 8, 2014 Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours clear yellow with a rich, pure white foam cap. Aroma holds a lot of hay and mild citrus. Flavor is like juice, orange juice, nice and sweet, mild bitterness of zesty citrus and hay. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Finishes sweet, semi-sticky, plenty more juicy orange, tangerine and ripe lemon. Very good beer. (3.8)

Cask at the Metropolitan Bar, JDW - London. Pours perfectly clear, yellow-gold with a white foam head. Not great this time around. Some cheap white bread pale malt character with nips of creamy vanilla, white sugar and faint straw. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Lemon meringue in the finish with light, doughy white bread. Meh. (3.1)

Cask handpull, The Chandlers Arms, Shearsby, arse end of Leicester, 08/05/11. Brilliant, finely lacing gold. Soft spliffy hop aroma with fresh grass, hay, slight minerals and pine. Less overtly hoppy taste; watery cherry, ganja and malted milk notes combined with a seawater-dappled stone and Alka Seltzer minerality. Gnaw of almond showing. A bit limp after the AllGates PG.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 9/03/2011. Deep gold with a slight white head. Some citrus hop character with a touch of pineapple and dryish finish. Ok.

Bottle, Sheffield, UK. Pure gold colour. Floral pine aroma with some lime in the background. Bright fresh flavour, active but not overpowering. Pepper at first, then transitions to a long dry finish with some sweetness on the tip of the tongue.

otakuden (1783) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 27, 2011
Appearance: clear straw and baled hay under a white head which leaves lace and a blotchy thin layer of foam behind. Swirls with a thicker collar without disturbing the already established lace.
Nose: breads; whole fresh loaves direct from the bakery. Gentle fresh herbs; basil, sage. Honey kisses. Cut straw and freshly baled hay, dry and crisp.
Palate: clean, crisp, and dry in the back of each quaff. Straw and bread crust. Herbs linger in the breath with fresh dried basil and sage. Honey crust in the middle with fresh baked white breads. Lemon skin provides pleasant bitterness in the back, lingering atop the tongue. Sense of brightness overall with flavors centered in the middle.
Final Thoughts: quintessentially English, if I do say so myself. A session quaffer with fresh breads and herbs being the welcome stars of the show. Thanks to Sharon for bringing back this gem from her trip to England.

Bottle… Clear straw-colored ale with a small, wispy, white head. Good retention. Peppery musky bouquet… almost herbal – pale grains and is that basil? Light-bodied and fizzy. The flavor is well-balanced and clean. Lightly bitter. Short, crisp finish. Bottle courtesy of otakuden!

Cask conditioned at Harbury Beer Fest ’10. Gold with white head. There is a heavy floral note about this, some sweetness and toffee, a touch heavy. Quite challenging to the palate.
