3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours black with a nice big tan head. Not a huge amount of flavour for a stout. A bit of chocolate and burnt toast, but this is a little disappointing.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask @ JDW Bankers Draft, Sheffield [From memory as notes lost]
First beer of the Sheffield Trip so I remember this well. Black, dense tan head. Aroma of soft roast , chocolate, dark malts, some cereal. Similar flavours - good chocolate in it and nice smooth dark malts with that cereal edge. Medium body, smooth finish of soft roast and chocolate. Liked this one a lot. One of the best beers of the trip.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Medium brown head. Nearly opaque black body goes barely translucent deep dark brown at edges. Roasty earthy chocolate aroma with milky notes. Dry-sweet milky chocolatey taste with funky notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish earthy chocolatey aftertaste with funky notes. It’s ok, but a bit odd. (0.5l bottle, from Clarke’s, Whitby.)

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma of roasted malts and a hint of coffee. Feels thin but does have an oily feel on the palate. Flavour has strong bitterness from the burnt malts.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
A stout which is mild in character with a nutty aroma, but is lacking in its aftertaste.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask (?, Canterbury)
Lovely bacony roast aroma. Black, only brief head (but was towards the end of the barrel, so not as young and under pressure as it could be). Smooth and sweet, but a little flat in the mouth. Sweetish taste, but very drinkable. Veers on the milk-chocolate side of stout. Particularly in the finish. Moreish.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
500ml bottle - what you’d expect from a stout in looks, black body, white to beige head. Smoky chocolate nose, a few fruits and coffee in there. A bitter malt taste, a bit thin in the palate, and not much after. The cask version I tasted a few weeks ago was so much better.
