Obviously this beer is very inconsistent, with some very different experiences had. I think my bottle was pretty close to the mark. It poured deep black with a full and lasting head. Roasted aroma, with that creamy but watery milk stout character. On tasting there is more of that, with the lactose sweetness seeming to come more at the bottom of the glass (although it may have just taken me that long to get saturated with it. Slightly overcarbonated, but with a solid body for a beer of this abv. Decent and worthwhile, but not one to get too excited about.

Wow this beer is over carbonated and it affects the taste as well. Good aroma to start with of roasted espresso. Small tan head and dark but no totally opaque colour. On first sip the carbonation just slams you. Makes it hard to taste much. Some espresso taste, interesting sweet/sour effect from the lactose but disappointing.

Heavy malt sweet aroma. Black dark brown colour over primed good head. Sweet malt flavour. Smooth palate.

<i<Bottled. Black,beige head. Aroma of coffee with cream. Sweet and light bodied with soft mouthfeel and notes of chocolate. Drier finish. Stunningly similar to the famous Maltese Farson’s Milk Stout, but more well made. Good to see someone actually attempting a low abv milk stout again.

Damn this beer must travel real real well to Japan. I had this at a sampling with BA guys and this and Freeminer Shaft Stout came out as the clear winner amongst 10 beers. Dark brown head, pitch black color. Solid dark chocolates notes with caramel and a touch of nuttiness. Starts slightly tart, with dark chocolate, cherries, dark fruit and nuts. A bitter dark chocolate finish. WOW for 3.2% this stuff has complexity. My favourite Aussie beer.

Flawed milk stout from regional NSW. It was the first of their beers that didn’t look over-carbonated (the other two were gushers). Poured black with a 2cm tan head that showed good length and some lace. Aroma initially seemed right - dark malt, chocolate ice cream, etc - but it developed nasty farmyard characteristics - silage and cattle manure. Thin, fizzy mouthfeel - it may not look overcarbonated but it sure tastes that way. Mild flavour initially - milky coffee with plenty of sugar - but with a creeping sourness. Dry finish with metallic tendencies. This stuff gives you really foul burps - you could stop a charging rhino with one. (350ml bottle, no best before)

Pours quite dark. Big head initially but settles down very quickly. Maintains a good thin creamy layer however. Reasonable roast on the nose, a little smokey. Palate is ok, some more classic roasted notes and malt but is a little thin and metallic. Finishes quite dry. Just doesn’t have the body and weight I was expecting.

Dissappointingly thin for such a dark beer with decent head and promising aroma. Light roasted flavour on the tongue soon gets washed away with a sweet watery finish.

NFOB 2004 - Looked great. Aroma was big on the usual toasted/roasted/burnt notes. I think my tastebuds may have been getting the same way after tasting too many stouts in the one sitting. However the thin body and slightly oily mouthfeel detracted from an otherwise reasonable stout.

I was very worried about this beer after my experience at AIBA (all their beers tasted nasty and infected) but was pleasantly surprised. Highly carbonated which was a concern but it wasn’t infected. After letting it sit for a while, the beer was an opaque black colour with a nice tight tan head. Nice chocolaty aroma with some malted milk and a hint of instant coffee. Flavour is distinctly like a cafe latte with about three sugars - not really my style but it kind of grew on me. Thin mouthfeel and the lactose is a bit of a turnoff but the roastiness just sneaks back in at the end to balance it out. I generally detest milk stouts (Mackeson’s and Sweetheart both nearly made me vomit) but this wasn’t too bad.
