UPDATED: SEP 19, 2008 June, 2003 Elephant & Castle, Woolwich. At last - my 2nd attempt at getting this beer from this pub, the only regular outlet in the SE of England. The E&C is a market traders pub so is allowed to open at 7 in the morning. Not much character (and no bar food) but the Brains is cheap. The beer is in beautiful condition with a fresh whiff of sulphur and a gently unfolding iron fillings tinged fruit flavour. Thin to medium bodied texture with a late rusty fruit surge before a damp finish with a very late gentle but earthy hop dryness leaving a pleasant memory in the mouth. Well worth the 2nd visit. [3.6]
Jan, 2004. <a href=http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/6 Cricketers, Greenwich - an ex-Charrington house. Thin and dry session bitter of no great character other than a glowing amber colour. [2.5]
Sept, 2006 The George Inn, Gravesend. Pleasant malt with a quick flowery flurry of hops. OK, though served a little tired. [2.6]
Sept, 2008 The Hanbury, Caerleon. A clean session bitter. Soft, little bitterness. Reasonably dry and nutty. OK. [2.8]

A lovely welsh bitter... which i prefer in general to most english bitters... i enjoyed this New Years Eve in Cardiff at Dempseys across from the Cardiff Castle... this helped to make a great night... A: Medium amber with a thin-medium off white head... fades nicely S: Floral hops and bakery malts play off each other T: The aroma profile plays a big part in the taste with the floral hops smashing up front and then giving way to rich malts typical of the bitter M: Medium bodied... smooth and velvety O: A good one. I’d enjoy again and again

Amber pour with a tight creamy head. The nose is softly malty with a little bit of light earthiness and a touch of soft fruit on the palate. Light bodied - but plenty quaffable.

On cask at the Cottage in Cardiff. Pours a clear golden hue with a thick cask head. The aroma is sweet bitter hops and malts. A nice flavor is smooth malts, some bitter hops, caramel. Very drinkable. That wonderful cask real-ale body.
