COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Created by Simon Martin, aka Mr Real Ale Guide, this is a golden IPA with a hefty aroma of citrus flavours, especially grapefruit. Brewed with a trio of American hops – Zeus, Summit and Cascade, an initial smooth flavour leads to the huge citrus flavour of the hops kicking in towards the end, with oranges and a dry finish becoming apparent.

33cl bottle from Morrisons. Golden amber with a ring of white head; the aroma is spicy and malty, with traces of raw alcohol; the body is sweet and malty with some orangey fruit; the hops are definitely there but do not make much of an effort, adding some boiled cabbage before a dry and lightly spiced finish with a touch of citrus. Good to see a major brewer experimenting like this, but they are someway off the mark.

Not sure why others have rated this so highly! The brewer not only claims that this is an IPA but also that it is "Inspired by the ’IPA revolution’ across the pond"! Rubbish. I’ve been to the West Coast US and I can tell you that this doesn’t even come close, where are the hops? The brewer has either never downed a true American IPA or hasn’t the skill to recreate it. I will never get the £2 or 20 minutes back that I wasted on this insipid rubbish!

Amazing Beer if I may say so myself. The aroma is punchy and full of vitamin C hop tones with the clarity of the beer looking like a classic clear American Style IPA. Taste doesn’t disappoint either with citrus grapefruit and lemon peel hop flavours combining with a lovely biscuit malt undertone.

Bottle from Tesco. Poured a dark amber with a thin white head. The aroma is malty and a little hoppy leading to a medium bitter flavour with lots of hops and a nice bitter palate. Deserves a higher rating IMO.
