Created by Simon Martin, aka Mr Real Ale Guide, this is a golden IPA with a hefty aroma of citrus flavours, especially grapefruit. Brewed with a trio of American hops – Zeus, Summit and Cascade, an initial smooth flavour leads to the huge citrus flavour of the hops kicking in towards the end, with oranges and a dry finish becoming apparent.

March, 2013 330ml dark bottle from Morrisons. A soft, clean and drinkable beer. Mildly fragrant and perfumed, but this is a British Golden Ale not an APA. Quite forgettable really, but inoffensive and drinkable. [2.8]
June, 2015 330ml brown bottle, filtered, from Tesco. An odd marriage of a British golden ale and an American Pale Ale, at a higher abv than either usually are (more suited to the aspiration of an IPA). There’s an earthy grittiness about this which reveals its British origin and style. The hops are pleasantly used to flavour rather than assault or impress, though even then are a tad too dominating over the malt for my taste. This is a short lived beer, which doesn’t live up to its strength, and under performs in other areas as well. The most appealing aspect is the roughness. [2.9]

At Great British Beer Festival 2015. Day 3. Clear golden beer with a small head. Malty caramel aroma, hay, grass, citrus, some grapes. Bready hop flavor, grassy, hay, citrus, some grapes. So so.

Bottle. Pours a clear pale amber colour with a thin white head. Aroma of caramel, slight cereal, grapefruit, orange and a lot of herbal hops. Taste of caramel, grapefruit, orange, some red berries and herbal hops, quite medicinal. Light bodied and a spritzy texture. A dry, herbal hop bitterness in the finish. Quite malty with unappealing herbal hop tones. Not bad but doesn’t tastes its strength, to thin too.

Cask at the GBBF 2015. Low fluffy white quickly disappearing head. Clear amber body. Dusty bitter aroma and flavor with a low carbonation and a long finish.

Another Tesco IPA. Pours fairly nice with a small white head. Nose has a lot of malts and not many green notes. Taste is similar, but the green notes are slightly more dominant, though still not clear and dry enough to make it a good IPA. A bit of a disappointment.

330ml bottle. A clear amber with a fine and fading off-white to beige head. Earthy malts present but a solid hop-focus. Tropical/citrus hops are balanced (perhaps outweighed, even) by sweeter malt notes. Lacks the body I’d expect of its ABV. Spritzy carbonation, firm mouthfeel and a fine length to end.

Bottle at home. Pours clear orange. Nose is citrus, grapefruit, grain, tangerine. Taste is tangerine, malts, fruity hops, citrus. Cant say what it lacks but somehow a bit lame. Also quite watery for the abv.

Messy head marmalade and hops on the nose bit too sweet to be standout with no balancing bitterness bottle from morrisons
