COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boilermaker is a copper-coloured IPA brewed with Ben and Tom from Thinking Drinkers. Brewed with Chinook, Simcoe, Cascade and Willamette hops and matured with Penderyn whisky infused oak chips in casks from the distillery, the arts of distillation and brewing combine to create an epic Welsh IPA adorned with a fragrant citrus aroma, a touch of spice with hints of vanilla and a warm whisky finish.

330ml bottle. Pours a clear copper amber colour, foamy off-white head leaving some lacing and malty, woody oak aroma. Taste is malt caramel, abit fruity, with notes of vanilla, oak and lingering bitterness. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, dry bitter finish. OK.

Bottle 330ml. @ [ (Easter "Flags of many nations" Tasting) by Chriso - London ].

Clear medium amber orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted - caramel, oxidide, fruity. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20130331]

33cl bottle from Morrisons. Attractive golden amber colour with a loose cream head; malty aroma with some wishy-washy hops; rich malty flavour with lots of caramel, and short burst of rather indistinct hops; and then perhaps a hint of whisky at the finish. At least they are trying to do something exciting down at Brains.

Bottle at Chriso Easter "Flags of many nations" Tasting, 31/03/13 thanks to Leighton. Clear mid amber with a thin off white head that departs edgeward. Nose is malt, bready dough, light spice, wheres the hops and not really getting the whisky either? Taste comprises caramel, sugars, malt, light hops. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Drinkable but mediocrity screams from this one!

Bottle. Dark copper beer, residual head. Aroma of vanilla oak. Taste is slightly bitter and astringent. A touch of whisky, but minor amount. Vanilla and oak again and a little dry. caramel. Chewy. Its not bad a different type of IPA to most.

Bottle from Bottle Shop. Intriguing nose with some vanilla cookie notes threaded with a little sharpness from the whisky and a slightly worrying hint of soapiness. Pours a nice deep copper with a strong fluffy head and lace. The flavour starts quite well - a strong bitterness on the front of the tongue at first sip with some peppery spice, a little treacle and some woodsmoke. As it develops, though, it lose something - the mouthfeel is a little thin, the finish a little cloying. It leaves a caramel biscuit aftertaste and a slight astringency at the back of the throat. Probably the best I’ve had from these Brains ’craft’ brews, but that doesn’t by any means make it a great beer.

Cask @ The Union Tavern. The pour’s medium amber with a small head. The aroma’s of caramel, vanilla wood, some light roasted grain. The taste is weird vanilla treacle, some heavy caramel and jam. Brown bread body. Light grassiness on the finish. The flavors feel flabby and cumbersome. Medium body, sullen palate. Overall, this isn’t good.
