Boilermaker is a copper-coloured IPA brewed with Ben and Tom from Thinking Drinkers. Brewed with Chinook, Simcoe, Cascade and Willamette hops and matured with Penderyn whisky infused oak chips in casks from the distillery, the arts of distillation and brewing combine to create an epic Welsh IPA adorned with a fragrant citrus aroma, a touch of spice with hints of vanilla and a warm whisky finish.

Pours mahogany into a shaker. White head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Toffee, vanilla and pit fruit aromas. Soft with sweet oak and vanilla upfront turning dry and more oak in the lasting finish.

330 ml bottle, from a cornershop in Cardiff, drank it too warm in my hotelroom. Copper colour, moderate head, slightly off-white. Strong sweetish aroma, malts, caramel, whisky, oak, some hints of fruity hops too. The flavour is sweet and malty, with notes of caramel, whisky and oak - but the 4 American hops are hardly noticeable, just a slight fruitiness, and minimal bitterness. Not an IPA this one.

Clear copper, small airy white head. Malty aroma with hints of wood. Flavour has caramel and peppery, boozy wood. Lively carb, bitter and sourish finish.

330 ml bottle poured into a Hoegaarden snifter at home. Orange marmalade and raisin aroma. Fruit and nut toffee flavour with a hint of medicinal lozenge. Juicy palate. Better than expected.

Bottle received as a gift. Whiskey element is faint but that's ok because it's still a nice tasty beer. Struggle to reconcile it with an IPA but good all the same

330ml bottle. Clear, reddish golden colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Malty aroma with a touch of toffee, jelly baby sweetness, a cautious herbal-nuttily touch. Taste is nuttily malty, bitter hoppy overtones, minimally oaky. Not much outcome considering the expenditure of ingredients.

Backlog rating. Keg at The Rake, London. It pours a clean brown color with ruby edges and a medium off-white head. Aroma is sweet and malty, with notes of light wood, ashes, spices, toffee. Taste is quite sweet with a ashy dry finish. Notes of toffee, vanilla, honey and dried leaves. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, did not like it much, too sweet for me
