Once called Red Dragon the famous pint of Dark has always been synonymous with Brains particularly in Cardiff with the dock-workers of old, the male voice choirs and with rugby fans down in the Arms Park. Nowadays its popularity has expanded and is the biggest selling dark mild in Wales, continually winning awards both nationally and internationally.
’Dark’ is treacle-coloured with a creamy contrasting head. A velvety smooth pint, Dark has a combination of chocolate, crystal and brown malts providing a clean palate with hints of liquorice and freshly ground coffee.

Cask-conditioned and tried on several occasions. Near black with tight, off-white head. Pleasant mild with a pronounced chocolate edge and touch of roast in the finish. Good.

Cask @ Archies, Prestatyn [090615]
Amber brown, dense white head, good lacing
Aroma of very soft malts
Taste of light soft fruits, soft dark caramel, dab of dark malt
Palate - Light body, quite creamy. Finish of soft malts
Overall - Seems rather light for a mild, rather thin in flavour

Cask@GBBF2012. Deep rubyish black colour with a mediumsized creamy beige head. Aroma is nutty, mild chocolate, some roasted malts as well as mild toffee to it. Flavour is chooolate, mild coffee, some roasted malts, toffee and a bit ripe fruity notes. Nice toasted and chocolaty aftertaste.

UPDATED: NOV 8, 2013 I love, love, love this beer. This is the one that turned me on to cask ale. This rating is from the Cricketers Arms, Bedford. Almost black. Full sandalwood head. Aroma of charcoal, liquorice, malt. Sublime taste. Sweet and full ending with a bittersweet finish. Dense mouthfeel for its strength. One of the best milds available.

(Cask, GBBF 2013): Almost black, small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and liquorice. Smooth roasted malt flavour with a touch of coffee but not much else. Pleasant but nothing exciting.
