Bottle. Black with a small head. Slightly dry with a trace of roasted chocolate. Signature on the label is similar to a well known Irish brewery. Reasonable and straight forward.

500ml bottle from Tesco in Windsor. Black beer. Thin frothy head. Toasty and dry cocoa. Merest hint of blackberry.

Can’t believe this one slipped under the radar- assumed it was the same as the dark. Bottle from Crosspoint Tesco, Coventry. Handsome deep ruby appearing black with a slim beige cap. Nose butter, iron and black coffee. Rusted coffee flavour; heavily toasted Schwarz-like grain, burnt paper, charcoal, puffed rice. Thin but half decent.

Bottle, bb 31/07/14. Pours a very dark brown with a slight red edge. Aroma is a little herby and a little sweet choc. Medium body, medium carbonation. There's a slight veggie grassiness to it which is nice, then there's a little dark toffee, a bit of choc too, but the grass wood and bark provide a rather nice dryness. Good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Typical stout aromas but not as opaque as many stouts. Lightly hopped, its overriding taste sensation is of dark chocolate. Quite good but a little thin for my palate.

For the sake of the social interaction just numeral ratings and/or some highlighted attributes. Roasted malts, some acidic notes, chocolate.

Bottle from Tesco drunk at home. Dark brown almost black beer with a thin lasting beige head. Roasty chocolate and some liquorice on the aroma. Actually I rather like this. The best Brains beer I think I’ve had. A little thin in the mouth, but highly drinkable. Yes, very drinkable and not much hop or dryness on the finish. Good stout. My kind of stout.

Sample at SBWF 2013. Black with a tan head. Soft aroma of light roasted malt and light coffee. The taste was also light with notes of coffee, dark bitter chocolate and roasted malt. Rather creamy mouthfeel with some bitterness in the finish.
