3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BlackHaddock (2359) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 4, 2012
500ml Bottle, best before 30 June 2012, poured into my Abbot Ale glass tankard some four months before that date.
The beer didn’t want to give me a head, so mid pour I gave it a more rigorous angle, low and behold a tan coloured head rose through the body, sadly it soon fell to a wisp and collar.
The body is really dark, almost black in fact.
The smells were of lightly burnt chocolate malts and ground coffee, actually so was the taste. The burnt chocolate content gave the beer a dry finish and added to any hop bitterness that might have shown.
Nothing too set this apart from other Stouts, medium body depth, becoming a little watery towards the end of each sip. Might be a whole lot better in cask form.

Bottle. Roasted malts, smells like a bitter stout, grassy hops, burnt toffee. Jet black body, thin tan head that quickly dissipates. Bitter. Dry finish. Very silky and smooth mouthfeel.

500ml bottle cool. Pours black with a dense tan head. Coffee aroma, and mocha flavour. There’s a bit of black treacle, slick and creamy mouth feel, and generous bitterness in the finish. Nice one.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 AKSalmon (57) - Norfolk, ENGLAND - JAN 21, 2012
This is a decent beer and I like my stouts. It has a strong coffee aroma with a little molasses. It is a thick dark beer that when poorest into a pint glass ended up with a decent 1 & 1/2 finger tan head. It is a full flavor need with a strong coffee flavor. I will drink this beer again.
