3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Tesco drunk at home. Dark brown almost black beer with a thin lasting beige head. Roasty chocolate and some liquorice on the aroma. Actually I rather like this. The best Brains beer I think I’ve had. A little thin in the mouth, but highly drinkable. Yes, very drinkable and not much hop or dryness on the finish. Good stout. My kind of stout.

Sample at SBWF 2013.
Black with a tan head. Soft aroma of light roasted malt and light coffee. The taste was also light with notes of coffee, dark bitter chocolate and roasted malt. Rather creamy mouthfeel with some bitterness in the finish.

Bottle from Tesco, pours near black with a beige fine head, notes of cocoa and blackcurrant on the nose, creamy and roasty in the mouth, dry finish with a burnt bitter edge and a faint tang of blackcurrant. A nice dry stout.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Tesco’s. Poured a deep chocolate brown with a thin tan head. The aroma is of roasted malt. The flavour is medium bitter with malt, liqourice, some chocolate and surprisingly a little alcohol too.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark black non-amber pour. Even a half-decent stout is a good shout and at £1.50 a go you can’t argue with this. How long will people continue to chase that elusive killer beer at ridiculous prices when there is fairly good pickings to be had at a fraction of the price I wonder? Bit burnt, little thin, but enjoyable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A really nice stout. Roasted malts in the nose, perhaps a hint of chocolate. Dark, dark brown pour with a rocky tan head. Solid chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee flavor profile. Some bittering at the end. My only complaint would be is that it is a bit thin on the palate, otherwise very drinkable.
