SA Gold is a full-flavoured, hoppy and refreshing golden ale, brewed at the home of the famous Brains SA in Wales. Careful use of Target hops creates a satisfying bitterness, perfectly balanced by vibrant citrus aromas and complex hop flavours from late-hopping using Cascade and Styrian Goldings. A deliciously satisfying and refreshing pint!

Bottle from Bargain Booze... Hops, hops and hops... thus bitter, and floral. Not very interesting.

A golden yellow coloured beer with a thick frothy white head. A light hoppy aroma, hints of resinous citrus fruit and biscuity malt. Dry mouthfeel. A tangy citrusy fruit flavour, a little sour toward the end. The finish is dry and a touch resinous. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from local Sake Marche. Spritzy lemon nose, with strong caramelly British malt, and rusty water. Pale straw, with bright gold highlights, little head. Moderately tangy initial, with some fruit and graininess / hops come through well and malt get a bit earthy / finish is prickly and bitter. Thin body. Tasty stuff. Hoppier than most in this style.

Bottle. Yellow, clear. Really nice citrusy-green hoppy nose with slightly caramelly toffee malts (feels scottish!). Some slight metallic tones, nutty yeastiness. Body is light, quite soft, some oilyness, a bit stale malty. Pale malts, greenish hops. But sadly, after just 5 minutes most of the gorgeous hoppyness has faded, making me consider dumping this as slightly oily light malty beers isn’t my thing.

Bottle from Tesco. Pours golden with froth. Some caramel, as with most bottled ales overcarbonated and tend to be much of a muchness. OK.

500 ml bottle. Clear golden yellow colour, thin white head. Fruity, malty aroma with grass, citrus and caramel notes. The flavour is grassy bitter, with fruity and caramel-malty notes. OK session ale.

There is an immediate bitter waft of grapefruit peel coming from a big, light golden pint with the remnants of an off-white head. Closer oganoleptic inspection gives an indication of biscuity golden malt and tangerine. For a golden ale, this has lovely character. There is a dual mouthfeel of prickly carbonation and smooth body that carries the bitterness well. It is almost a little soapy as well, but for that it is pleasant. I could happily have a session on this but I think it would have to be from cask in Wales. I’ll put that on the bucket list.
