SA Gold is a full-flavoured, hoppy and refreshing golden ale, brewed at the home of the famous Brains SA in Wales. Careful use of Target hops creates a satisfying bitterness, perfectly balanced by vibrant citrus aromas and complex hop flavours from late-hopping using Cascade and Styrian Goldings. A deliciously satisfying and refreshing pint!

500ml bottle. Pours a pale gold with a decent white head. Fresh and zesty, erring on the sweeter side. There’s a nice balance of bitters and there a medium dry bittersweet finish which makes this a really nice drinkable beer. Nothing magical, but satisfying and pleasant.

Bottle. Pale golden pour and the nose is lovely. Soft spicy hoppiness with a bit of orange peel. Quite leafy and a little bit herbal/spicy as well. Softly herbal and a little bit of light leathery character. Nice and spicy.

500ml bottle. Pours a hazy burnt gold, with a smallish white head, which, whilst it does not last all that well, does leave good lace. The nose blends sweet biscuit malt characteristics with strongly floral hops aromas. A brief initial burst of citrus is soon replaced by smooth biscuit malt. This is turn is replaced by powerful floral hops. More biscuit notes return, along with butter and spice, in the finish. This is a pretty straightforward beer. It is overwhelmingly similar to standard Brains SA, just more strongly hopped and refreshing. Hardly surprising, since it is essentially more strongly hopped SA. A decent summer session ale.

Bottle from the Cromwell Sainsburys. Pours light amber with a 3 finger creamy off-white head. Aroma of ripe light stone fruits over mild caramel with a hint of spice. Starts rather malty, but some fruit and bitter come out, turning it quite satisfactory.

Bottle 50cl. A clear golden ale with low head. Nose is orange like. A medium sweet to low beer with a dry finish, bitter with a hopy aroma more on lemony / orange side. Malt side is low and boring, a basic ale not complex at all, very disappointed.

50 cl bottle from a supermarket in Swansea. It pours a clear golden liquid with a medium and consistent white head that diminishes but leaves a nice lacing. The aroma has grassy and floral hops, as well as citron. It is very refreshing, with a hoppy character and little malt presence. There might be some ripe banana hint. It is a little sweet and tart, being basically bitter but less than an IPA. Softly carbonated, it ends very dry and leaves a pleasant non-astringent hoppy aftertaste. It feels a little watery in the mouth, though. Cool beer for summer; very nice and refreshing flavour. Also good presentation (bottle and crown cap).
