This pub serves consistently good beer so can be relied on to deliver beers as they were meant so believe me, this beer is nowhere near as good as when it was brewed in Henley upon Thames. It was a flat consistency with a cardboard backtaste. Sour and thin, absolute crap if truth be told. What happened to Brakspear beers, they sold out, thats what. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 29, 2003 Pours a clear light brown with minimal head. Sweet wet cardboard malt aroma. Bitter, sour orange flesh, that isn't a good for me. . . the malt just doesn't do it for me, too bad. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 21, 2003 Clear medium amber with a small uneven off-white head. Aroma of cut hay, apricots, slight moldy hops. Nice bitter taste. A great tasting beer that at 3.4% I could drink all night. Slightly dry finish. npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jul 4, 2003 Clear copper with a small head. Nose is metallic, medium sweet, with green apples, touches of diacetyl. Flavor is funky, musty, metallic and buttery. A hint of green apples. Thin mouthfeel, and a terribly plain, bitter finish. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 22, 2003 Pours a dark amber/copper color with a thin, but persistent, white, lacing head. The aroma is quite malty--slightly sweet with caramel, nut, grain and a hint of smoke. The flavor provides a nice maltiness that isn't quite matched by the hops. Rather weak hops without much detectable bitterness. Buttery and slightly off in my book at times. Interesting, but perhaps not outstanding. PorterPounder (3137), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 27, 2003 Whiskey like appearance - dark amber. Little to no head. Aroma - a bit of alcohol and sugar. Flavor - just the right amount of hop bitterness to make you purse your lips but not sweet enough to make a session ale. Overall - a decent bitter but nothing to write home about Aurelius (2647), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 27, 2003 A little caramel, smoke and Maris Otter in the nose. Great citrine brew, good bottle (brown, not clear as in the pic), classy label. A little cidery, moderately hopped, with some caramel or candy sugar. A very good 3.4% ale.
